BRITWATCH: Keothavong Out!!!

Anne Keothavong has been beaten by Marion Bartoli in 3 sets. Bartoli was the better player in the 1st set and took it 6-3 but Keothavong battled back in the 2nd to win it 6-1 and had a lead of 4-1 in the 3rd set winning 10 of 12 games in the process. However Bartoli managed to rediscover her form and took the decider 7-5.

Although Anne had a great chance at winning, I think this result and tournament really shows where she has come in the past 12 months (even 6 months). At the start of the year, she could hardly have thought that she will be pushing Bartoli (Wimbledon finalist, former top 10) to 3 sets and having a chance of winning. This just shows how much she has improved and she is showing the way for the rest of the British girls at the moment.

I believe her efforts of qualifying and beating Mirza will reward her with a ranking within the top 75 when the rankings are updated next week.

Cibulkova Vs Sugiyama is the battle of the players with no weapons. It is unsurprising its going the distance as no weapons no way to finish the player off. Cibulkova just shows the inconsistancy of the top players in the women's game to have progressed up the rankings.

Hopefully Patty can brighten my evening later and exit Williams.
If Williams goes through my interest in this tourney, A-Chak aside, virtually goes with it.

Conosu2, Why did Dom retire when she was 3-5, 0-40 down(3 MPs for Sugi)? I am speechless!

Hahaha Sugiyama won by retirement at 40 lov up isn't that pathetic by Cibulkova. She is a disgrace what happened did she mentally disappear knowing she was match point down after having 3 match points.

It's a shame Anne Keothavong didn't win but still an encouraging performance. To get so close to victory against a player nearly 70 places above her - to me that's like a lower league side giving a Premier League club a close run. Yet it won't be seen like that, most people will just think "typical, another British player has lost". Which is a pity as she's obviously making a real effort to improve her game.

If Serena had retired at that point I’m guessing there would have been at least an extra 100 comments by people all displaying their disgust in her. Cibulkova could have just stood there and lost the one point. Serena beat Patty 6-3 6-1 quite convincingly. It’s good to see Serena fully dedicated to the tour once again. She was basically a part timer during 2005 & 2006.

Anne's effort looking even better in light of Bartoli's 3 & 4 win against reigning champ Chakvetadze.
