He was a good assistant manager but he is replaceable. Maybe give McClair a chance. I'd love Cantona just to spring out of nowhere and do it though, probably be a laugh. Not sure if he could do the job though.

anybody remember what happenend when he took charge of madrid??

Yes we do.We also remember that Guus Hidding was sacked in 1998-1999 from Real, actually very early on.That did not hurt him at all.Stop using Real as an example.Real is a manager eater.

But then you have to remember Quieroz's other managerial catastrophies. Every club he has failed.

I'm very disappointed that there is so much negative publicity here Carlos and Ronaldo. I think you need to separate the two as they are two different issues.

Carlos Queiroz has done a fantastic job at Manchester United and leaves to join as manager of Portugal. I am pleased he is joining Portugal and wish him all the best of luck in this new role. We should thank Carlos for all is help and attention to detail at Man U. I think Sir Alex Ferguson comments about Carlos are correct and praised him for his contribution last season. I have enjoyed watching him at post match interviews and for his contribution to English football. I hope Portugal qualify for the world cup in 2010 in South Africa. Carlos Querioz will hopefully be making a trip back to South Africa near a country of his birth Mozambique! Viva e Forca Portugal!

On Ronaldo - I wish Ronaldo all the best in what ever and where ever he decides to go. He has made a massive contribution to the English premier league and have enjoyed watching his football over the years. He is a player that expresses him and I like that. We all pay money to watch great footballers. I would pay money to watch Ronaldo in Real Madrid or Man U. Of course I hope he stays at Man U but ultimately he is best where his heart lies. Ronaldo plays football with feeling. I like that in a player. Sometimes it means more than the result although I did enjoy Man U winning the premier league and Champions League!

I want to wish both Carlos and Ronaldo all the best for the future and hope they are successful in all their adventures and pursuits in life! Most of all I would like to thank them both for the contributions they have made in the premier league over the last few seasons. It has been unbelievable !

Carlos Queiroz has been a fantastic assistant and a credit to man united.

Anyone who would turn down the real madrid or portugal managers jobs would have to be a nut job.

for all of you who have bad things to say about him you are not true manu supporters and know nothing about football.

As for ronaldo he should be sold while the price is high.

He's gonna be a hard man to replace, but I fully understand why he taken the job. And wish him all the best working with his own country, he's a great man.

United will get over it and I have faith in Fergie he always makes the correct choices.

Re: Gunning for the top (formerly Walcott for England)

Sure, but at least Alex Ferguson’s assistants a) are actually offered managerial jobs and b) have the courage to take them. How many clubs has Pat Rice managed? How many have offered? That’s right, ZERO!!! The guy is nothing but Wenger’s little lapdog.

As far as Quieroz’s so-called ‘failures’ as a manager are concerned, I would hardly describe coaching the Portuguese under-20 team to two World Youth Championships or being credited for discovering Luís Figo, Rui Costa, Fernando Couto, João Vieira Pinto and Jorge Costa (widely regarded as the ‘golden generation’ of Portuguese football) as being a failure.
