Premier League Liverpool

So we have confirmed the signing of Cavalieri (WHO!?) but fair enough he is going to be understudy to Reina, meaning Carson is probably on his way out.

Anyway, more importantly how long do you think it will be before LFC Insider breaks this as his 'exclusive' insider knowledge...even though it's already on the website!

It seems the Liverpool squad has not been improved much. I'll eat my hat if Kuyt and Veronin win us a title (they are average players). United have such a strong squad. Why didnt we pick up Tevez to come work with his Argie mate? Wright Philips would be good for us, Santa Cruz would be worth picking up. Hope someone will stop United - we wont get close again... theres just no depth

No need to get too excited about a back-up keeper. I'm surprised though that the highly rated Carson isn't retained instead. I thought he was supposed to be England material.
As for Dossena and Degan, both are good players by all accounts and add competition for places. Give them a chance I say.

Keane and Barry would both be good additions and I think a quality right sided midfielder/winger is needed.

It's not all about buying superstars, it's about good balance and options and if Benitez gets Keane and Barry along with someone on the right I think Liverpool will definitely start the new season stronger than they were.

Whether that's good enough to challenge for the title remains to be seen.

It quite obvious what Rafas doing here.

He's brought in another keeper who he thinks has a good future ahead of him and will be a good backup for pepe. Keepers peak late and can play well up towards there 40's so he's still young in that sense.

This paves the way for carson to leave and reportedly before the figure was around 10m wanted for him.

Doubt we'll get that but i could well see him going for around 7-8m and making us 2-3m for transfers.

He said he was going to sell to buy, this is just part of it.

I wouldn't be suprised if Carson was included in the Barry transfer even.

everyone who says the players weve signed so far arnt well known and therefore are 'mediocre' etc dont you think rafa has taken the time to assess these players, there styles, their positives and negatives, there prices, and has picked the best that he can? dont you think if there were players better he would have gone for them?

we cant just sign big name players because we want to its also who wants to come to us and who we can afford. give them a chance at least, ronaldo wasnt a world-renowned player when utd signed him.

Don't underestimate the players Liverpool have signed just because they might be "unknowns" - after all, how many people had heard of Skrtel before he signed and Agger also, maybe? Skrtel has become a good player and Agger had a good start before his injury, also scoring several spectacular goals.

It also looks like Alonso could be staying which could limit the transfer money available. With Villa not budging on Barry's price, it could be a choice of him or Keane, although Rafa is still talking about bringing two (unspecified) names in but I think that these might be those he has in mind. If we can get both, fine, but if it came to a choice, I'd have Keane over Barry.

I just hope that Crouch doesn't come back to haunt us.

The team need a right midfielder who can get forward, supply and chip in with 10 goals.

Also a forward to support and cover for Torres in case of injury is needed - Keane will be a good link man for Torres and can score goals - he kept Spurs from the relegation battle last seasson. Also Santa Cruz would be worth a £12m bid.

Although i was impressed by Barry last year I am not sure where he will fit in unless we change our shape from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, something that has not suited Gerrard before and then where would Keane go as Gerrard would play the central support role?? Bentley has the hunger and age on his side as well as being right hand side player we need.

If Alonso can start to reproduce his form from 2 years ago then he does not need replacing!!

Understand why JAR has gone - never really hit the heights we all thought he would; We need to get rid of Pennant and also Finnan (a poor season last year but a solid player before); Happy with Kuyt as he showed in Euro's that right wing/ mid can be his place if required but he deserves a decent run up front and Veronin needs some playing time to show whether he should stay or go....go i think..

Babel could the player this year if he would just attack the right backs instead of passing - use that pace and skin them..

Starting Team:

Reina
Arbeloa
Carragher
Agger
Degan
Babel
Gerrard
Mascherano
Bentley??
Keane??
Torres

subs:
Cavalieri
Skrtyl
Kuyt
Alonso
Lucas
Aurelio
Benayoun

What signings? Why is he so hell bent on getting rid of Finnan, who is far better than Arbeloa? Why does he want Barry so much? Is it because he is a friend of Gerrard's? Why does he not go for Berbatov instead of Keane? Why are we all asking these questions and doubting we will do any better than last season?

The biggest question of the summer transfer frenzie still remains unanswered! nevermind the players already signed what are the owners doing to help with the other "targets"? or have they got bored of soccerball now?
