GOSSIP COLUMN

comment on the article

Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby

The opening lyrics to Build me up buttercup by the Foundations might show how Andrei Arshavin is feeling as a potential move from Zenit St Petersburg struggles to materialise.

Elsewhere, there's plenty to get your gossip hungry tatsebuds into so have a read and let us know your thoughts.

but that would be playing people out of position again (which rafa does to often), also carragher is to old and slow for that position now. i do agree about plessis, he looked a very good player last season and i hope he can take the next step.
makes you wonder why rafa wants to waste 17million on barry.

In fairness we can't afford to not play superstars like Chelsea do - we still have to balance books.

I think river21 got it right earlier. Rafa's problem is not the amount he has to spend, it's the fact that he goes for quantity over quality.

Something tells me that season 08-09 won't be as good as people make it out to be . But I'm sure the FA cup will be .

Zenit are asking stupid money which no club in their right mind would pay.

I think Benitez should stop wasting money on potential bargains and put in a serious bid for Villa.
I would love to see him in the Prem and think him and Torres would be class together. Don't think he worked with him at Valencia but still a big Spanish contingent there so if he was gonna leave Spain for anywhere, I'd guess it would be Anfield.

Although I am a manc so would still love to see you waste all your money on rubbish and scrape 4th again!

I honestly wonder if United need any big signings. Why change a winning formula??

Would maybe buy Zhirkov as he looks handy but besides that, I'm happy with the team and would like to see us do well not spending loads of money!!

Only Chelsea have 2 top notch keepers and even then Cudicini aint no international.
The problem benitez has is Carson wants to play every week (like Crouch).
---------------------------------------

I agree there and hope the same doesn't happen with Foster at United. He looks very good for the future so hope SAF gives him a chance in the 1st before spending loads on a new keeper when VDS retires.

He's off to Chelsea then winkeye

As a United fan, I think we need to bring in a striker. Apart from that I think we're sorted though if he brought in cover at fullback I wouldn't moan. All depends on Ronaldo though

There's a very good chance Foster could be Man Utd's no.1 when the season kicks off. I was widley reported he may well have been last season had he not had to have his opp, remember 06/07 VDS didn't have the best season and solid as he was this season I honestly don't think he's that special. Anyway theres a differnce between Carson and Foster in that VDS is a veteran on the verge of stepping down and Reina is a young GK established as the no.1 at Liverpool. If Carson stays he could concievably spend his entire career on the bench.

I think Rafa has a couple of decent young understudies in Insua, Lucas, Plessis, Hobbs and Babel. He needs to stop wasting his time and money on players he doesn't think are better than what Man Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal have i.e. 2 or 3 star or world class player not 5 or 6 squad players. He's already signed 2

Or is it still the boards faould or are Liverpool still little paupers who can't sign expensive players like Man Utd (while still spendin more then us in total)
