England v South Africa - first Test day one

International Tests
comment on the article

Forget yesterday's almost-biblical downpours - the summer starts today. The forecast for Lord's is fair for the start of the main event of the English cricketing season.

Extraordinarily, records are already tumbling. England are unchanged for the sixth successive Test - a new best. But this settled side will need to be on top of their game against a team second only to Australia in the world rankings.

New Zealand have been beaten home and away by England, but let's face it - Graeme Smith's lot pose a truly formidable challenge. So who's going to take the honours?

Our ever-entertaining Tom Fordyce will be keeping you across all the action on the BBC website. Read his lucid chat right here news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

Now, use this space to discuss what he says, what's going on at Lord's or maybe even something more esoteric. Do so, immediately.

Can't wait for another day of great English batting, I'm worried that we will have a great total but won't get a victory due old mother nature

We don't need to declare at all. We should be looking to build as big a total as possible before the rain sets in on Saturday. Ideally this will be over 500 then we can set a very attacking field and hopefully be spearheaded by a very grumpy Sidebottom. smiley

Speaking of sanity, I hope that Collingwood can pick himself out of this rut, he needs one of the two in at the moment to help him through

It would apear that Billy Bowden is a fully signed up member of the get Collingwood out campaign, how else can you explain that decision? How to end a test players career- give him out caught off the pads when he is short of runs.

England are 5 wickets down and 2 are poor decisions, not even wrong but understandable, no these were absolute howlers. yikes
