Valverde

comment on the article

I had a feeling this guy might lose time today despite the talk of a short time trial being ok for him and that he's improved his time trialling in general. I just don't see him coming up with the goods, he has too many bad days in a grand tour to win it. I think he is a real good rider but now Evans has got over a minute on him after 4 stages and will probably add at least another 1:30 in the final time trial. Valverde has too much to do in the mountains for me.

In the high mountains Valverde can pop and will be struggling in the final TT IMO. Evans will stay steady and conservative in the mountains and I back mr consistent to win the tour from here. As a surprise package I'd like to see Kirchen do well, he can climb but don't know about the high mountains.

Evans isn't a great mountain climber. People forget that Sastre and Soler cracked him on stage 14, last year. Evans was dragged to the line by Andreas Kloden. He couldn't handle 3 or 4 attacks from Contador and Rasmussen. I think Valverde, Sastre, Cunego, Ricco and Sanchez could crack him in the mountains, as it's his defensive style that'll mean he is the one to chase the breaks.

Kim Kirchen was looking good yesterday but maybe he has exerted too much energy. I fancy valverde to do well in the mountains, he will certainly be the one to watch out for. If he can break away with a couple of other riders it will be difficult to reel him back in.

I am not a fan of Cadel Evans and I really hope he doesn't win the Tour. I don't like his style of riding and his personality - he always seems arrogant in interviews to me. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Valverde either and I want someone outside of those two favourites to win this year's Tour. As an Italian, I would be happy if Damiano Cunego or Ricardo Ricco finished on the podium, especially as they are both young riders that are exciting to watch.

I also like Kim Kirchen a lot and I would be happy if he continued to have a good 2008 tour. Also, it is good for the Tour on the whole if French riders do well and I'm pleased that Feillu and Dumoulin gave the fans something to cheer about. I would like to see 37-year old Christophe Moreau do well and maybe get the King of the Mountains jersey after the withdrawal of Soler (which is a shame).
