New striker

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

With the pending departure of Crouch, it is clear Liverpool are going to need to replace him and it is likely Rafa has someone in mind.

So who do Liverpool fans see as an ideal replacement/partner for Torres?

I would choose between Robbie Keane or Villa, but Keane if anyone-proven goalscorer in the Prem.

If your going to spend some big money to win or seriously close the gap on ManUtd; better spent on permiership experience...Villa could just flounder; so what he was good at Euros, intls is different to Europe/prem anyway! Keane will be a better choice - can hold his own and is unselfish at the right times, perfect foil for Torres in prem. BArry and Keane could be the missing links for premiership - with Degen + Dossena, its quite positive, maybe a real right winger may be all thats needed next

Rafa has just confirmed what I said yesterday, he was just dropping names...someone has argued that Keane is getting on and is inconsistent, but I note that he is a spurs supporter so I guess he would never want to see Keane leave the Lane...What worries me is buying Keane for 15M+ and playing him effectively for three seasons or so, when we can get two supporting strikers from South America with the same amount. One weakness I've noticed with Rafa is his dithering when it comes to transitioning players from the reserve to the first team. Granted that he has experimented with a few but LFC has one of the best reserve squads in Europe, made up of youth and talent and I believe it’s high time Rafa took a risk on someone like Nemeth. Keane however would be an ideal partner for Torres but would struggle to carry the team on his own should Torres get injured. I believe we need two strikers, one out and out like Torres, one versatile like Robbie Keane, and let's not forget Ryan is still developing…As for Barry, I don’t think he’s worth the trouble unless we want to make convert of Villains and sell them shirts. We have Alonzo, Lucas, Guthrie, Hammill and a plethora of other midfield talent that is not being properly deployed. Look at Arsenal, we criticize their belief in developing youth but look at the caliber and number of clubs who want their so called inexperienced players…

Robbie Keane is not the man for Liverpool! What we need and the ideal striker to play with El Nino is a big tall target man - oh didn't we just sell one of those? I trust Raffa after all he is a proffesional manager I am not but I can't see the logic.

I would also say that if Rafa wasn't so short sighted, that Peter Crouch could easily be the perfect partner for Torres rather than spending £20m on another partner for him.

robbie keane and torres upfront would be frightening. If they got robbie keane and a midfielder and a centre back like ramos someone like that they would be title contenders i think arsenal will struggle this season and maybe even utd if ronldo leaves becuase if you take away his goals they would not have won anything this season its a fact champions legaue final he scored if he didnt chelsea win 1-0 many goals has he scored to make draws wins and loses draws.liverpool XI

Reina
Carrager Agger Skertal Aurelio

Babel Gerrard Mascerano Pennant

Torres Keane

Subs

Kuyt
Benayoun
Lucas
Arebeloa
Sub Keeper

If Liverpool get a few more signing ideally midfield the strengthen then they will be big contendenders

If we even have Pennant in the team, let alone on the field, at the start of the season, we can kiss any chance of a title run gone.

Aurelio on Carra as the backs? I can't see that as positive, unless they both improve in the respective positions. Carra is great at D, but going forward, good god he looked horrid last season. Aurelio simply needs to improve, and he may after a season under his belt. I thought Arbeloa was decent, but we will see how those new backs are?

Also, aren't there 2 more spaces on the bench this season?

I can see something like this at the moment...

Reina

Arebeloa Carra Agger Aurelio

Masch

Gerrard Barry

Keane Babel

Torres

Subs:
Kuyt
Skertl
Benayoun
Lucas
Insua
Keeper(intadje?)
youngster

i think alonso will go to sevilla after they sold poulsen to juve and keita to barca

as we saw at the euro torres and villa partnership didn't work that quite well

instead of buying barry for 18 million buy silva instead for 18 million who younger and got more potenial keane for less than 12 million or why dont liverpool play babel with torres up front and buy two wingers e.g silva and suarez those two players have got techniques and pace and would support babel and torres

if only rafa read this it would make liverpool a dangerous title contender not would we only play defensive we would play good attacking football aswell

come on liverpool this years is ours

David Villa? Forget it, LFC couldn't afford the asking price anyway.

Robbie Keane - what a fantastic signing he would be. I've long admired him, and actually believe he would make a better impact for Liverpool than Villa, especially if you would consider the price difference. But again, typically, I don't believe the board will come up with the cash.

As it stands, it looks like another average season for the nearly-men to look forward to. At least Agger is back, thank god!!!
