The problem with Lord's Test matches is the pitch. The only time the authorities will do something about these batting freeways is when
people stop attending.

Dig up this concrete monstrosity now!

Why is the drawthe most likely result for all
Lord's test - sack this incompetent groundsman now. grr

Right, sorry for my take on the match again! Sorry about my absense, i've been at the game so too busy! winkeye

Well don't I feel a muppet? I really expected Steyn, Morkel and Ntini to rip through England - instead 2 of them were basically toothless and bowled poor lines ... Morkel I thought was very good, despite such a benign and frankly disappointing pitch, he charged in and got good pace, bounce and carry - and got deservedly good figures in the context of the match ...

I was very impressed with Anderson and Monty with the ball for England, Broad tried hard and will certainly get wickets in future, but Sidebottom is virtually broken at the moment ... it shows what sort of a fighter he is that he was still charging in and trying 120% despite being in a lot of pain, but he needs a break ... Poor Colly got an absolute howler of a decision and shouldn't be hung for it, Strauss and Cook showed true openers mettle in putting on a decent opening partnership after being sent in ... Vaughan played the wrong line AGAIN, and serious questions must be asked about his ability to both captain the side and concentrate on his batting ... Pietersen and Bell have SURELY proved themselves now? All those whingers who claim KP isn't 'English' enough, or that Bell gets out when well set, should hopefully now clam up! Magnificent if contrasting innings, and the only possible negative is the huge disappointment for Bell to get out 1 short of a remarkable double ...

Back to the Saffas, isn't it interesting that the supposed 'weak links' in the team - Amla, Prince, McKenzie and Harris - were the best performers in the match for them? (aside from the 2nd innings skippers hundred) ... All along i've been saying that I rate Amla and McKenzie, but I was just as surprised by Prince, and to a lesser extent Harris, than the next guy! ... Harris didn't turn the ball much, and bowled a pretty negative leg stump line, but still managed to pick up the wickets that the disappoiting Steyn and Ntini didn't ...

All in all, a very impressive 3 days from England, and an equally impressive 2 day rearguard by a SA batting lineup just littered with talent and fighting spirit ... A deserved draw!

Erm, concrete monstrosity? Where is the concrete at Lord's? ... and for the record, the head groundsman has been there for something like 30 years, and is responsible for the track for some of the greatest test matches ever ... agreed this pitch was a bit disappointing, but weather has played a HUGE part in the lack of recent results at Lord's - and in this case the bowlers for both teams just weren't good enough to adapt to the pitch - can you imagine a team with bowlers such as Warne and McGrath, or Murali and Vaas - performing so badly on that track?

Waikato - Glad to read some unbiased comments for once smiley

Funily enough, Murali and Vaas (and SL as a whole have struggled at Lords on the last 2 occasions. But then those 2 tests were played in May.

England won in 02, and should have won in 06.

I've already been pilloried, but I wouldn't have enforced the follow on. Hindsight is wonderful, but a 520 target with 4 slips 2 gullies, silly mid off, short square and 2 leg gullies, would have been interesting cricket for 135 overs.

Oops thats 12 fielders - still probably wouldn't have won!

Whats your take on the rest of series.
