Cipriani

England
comment on the article

Looks like he's going to have no trouble coming back, but how long will it be before he gets injured again?
These days it seems an average of two players get injured per match. Is this because they're pushing their bodies too hard? Everyone knows how hard Wilkinson pushes his body, and look how many different injuries he's had since 2003...

I disagree with that comment about them getting paid enough. If you compare it to most other major sports they get paid very little. An average premiership rugby player will earn in a year what an average premiership footballer will get paid in a week. Does this mean they do less work. No of course not. And sometimes it isnt just a case of deciding to play your best. They will give it everything that they have everyweek however like most things there will always be variables. An example could be how the rest of the team or whether they have an injury or not.

Wilkinson is a very good example of what can happen when a player pushes their body too far. In all honesty, he shouldn't have been playing in the world cup in 2003, but the stakes were high and so was the price. I suspect if he had his time again he'd do exactly the same thing again.

As far as Cipriani goes, I think as much will depend on the state of his mind as the state of his ankle, and he's sounding very positive. It must be good having someone like Evans reassuring him that it isn't the end of the world.

Jonny W. has a great desire to play rugby not want to be protected all the time because he is "A kicker" The man is always prepared to take it to the wire, a true sportsman yet, he gets so much criticism. Just thank our lucky stars he is a Man of the rose I get a good feeling that Cipriani is the same.

Well said preciousmerryboy as regards your last comment!

As regards Wilko - in the WC semi-final his tackle on the French lock who used to be the captain was awesome and he went off injured which meant Chabal came on earlier than planned - I think that tackle was a crucial event in winning that semi-final in terms of the psychology of things as well as the fact that Chabal was asked to play at lock which is not his forte.

He also tackled the Welsh no. 6 and he went off injured in the 6Ns opening game vs Wales. That second half was not that good for Wilko but even though Cippers is our best 10 in some respects Wilko still has a role imo.
