Tour de France - not one this year!!!

When the organizers chose to exclude the reigning champion from this year's event, they added their own efforts to further undermine the event itself. It is now the 2008 Tour by all but the Champion.

It will be a second best spectacle throughout and a hollow victory for whoever wins. The Tour faces enough challenges after last year without adding this exclusionary selection process. Perhaps after they sufficently pare down the entry list the French can get what they really want ... a Frenchman in yellow in Paris.

I am planning to spend my time on my own bike enjoying the countryside rather than watching the 2008 TDF.

Bring on the 2008 Vuelta and maybe next year the TDF will be back.

ASO have not excluded Contador, they have excluded Astana. They made it quite clear during LAST years Tour that Astana would not be riding this year, Contador knew this when he signed for Astana, therefore can't complain. No team or rider is bigger than the Tour. As for your comments regarding a French winner, that really is ludicrous.

I totally agree with Igmeister there was alot of talk at the time regarding Contador when he signed that he might exclude himself by his actions he is a young rider with fantastic potential -maybe Astana thought they might get back in the race if they had the reigning champion in their team.As for your other assumption they are not doing very well with one Spaniard & one Norweigan pick of the pops at the moment allbiet after two days winkeye

And it's not the first time the Tour de France has taken place without the reigning champion.
