Murray will never win a slam

comment on the article

He has never shown the mental strength, footwork and athleticism that these two showed today. Roger still has atleast 4 more years at the top and Nadal has atleast another 8 years at the top. Not to mention Djokovic who is a slam champion and has thrashed Murray on more than one occasion.

Murray now has a better idea of how much he needs to improve his game in order to be a slam contender.

He seems driven enough to at least attempt to raise his game and I think he is capable - look at the recent strides he has taken in his fitness and on-court behaviour.

He may need another year before he's able to go toe-to-toe with someone as awesomely powerful as Nadal, though.

Let's hope that he can improve on his first grand slam quarter final by getting to the US Open semis or better! The courts certainly suit his game.

Players who I really enjoyed watching were Nastase, Conners & McEnroe. Murray does shout and berate himself....so what? If that is what it takes for him to raise his game...it is harmless! And adds tension to the game.
Also, does it matter if he never wins a Grand Slam Title?...so long as he does well and encourages other youngsters to do their best too, and get them all playing tennis. His attitude is attractive to youngsters.

I'm sorry, why is Murray taking a rest - what exactly has he done that has exhausted him. He got knocked out of Wimbledon - surely he could do with some ptactice!

I didn;t say he disgraced himself, just that he hasn't played all that much.

Don't be so naive!

Do you want him saving is energy for the lesser tournements or the Slams / Olympics?

Do you want him still playing when he is 35 (like Agassi) or stop when he's 25?

as Murray missed much of last season a half decent run in the US Open and other competitions should see Murray push further up the rankings. Still only 21, just because Nadal is a multiple champion by age 22 doesn't mean Murray is never going to make it, Nadal is just exceptional.

As for those criticising Murray and criticising those who back Murray, this sounds familiar to the criticism during the Henman 'era'. So what if he hasn't won a grand slam? so what if he never does so? If murray reaches the latter stages regularly then that still makes him one of the best players in the world.

British rankings:
1. Murray (9th in world)
2. Bogdanovic (237 in the world - never past round 1 at a GS)

So why does Murray and his supporters get criticised? Why not save criticism for those that are performing much worse than Murray, rather than someone who is amongst the best 10 players in the world?!

P.S. I've just noticed that despite retiring last year Tim Henman is still the british number 11 - what does that say about the standard of british mens tennis behind Murray?!

Murray may well never win a slam, but so what. That was always the criticism of Henman too but although he never really looked capable of doing so, he was still a good player and gave the fans at Wimbledon plenty of entertainment.

At just 22, the prospect of Murray winning a slam look better, and he'll certainly give the 'home' fans some interest at Wimbledon. Guys like Nadal are just exceptional, Murray is a good player so why can't people just be content with that and watch on with interest to see if he can make the step up?
