Tour de France Stage 2

Tour de France

Thor Hushovd wins stage two of the 2008 Tour de France

Well, another great day's racing in Brittany sees Thor Hushovd take his sixth career stage win.

You've got to feel a touch sorry for Thomas Voeckler, Sylvain Chavenel, Christophe Moreau and David Lelay who led for most of the race, but were caught with just 3km remaining.

But the pelton worked well to drag them back.

Fabian Cancellara made an audacious bid for glory, but went too soon, and Hushovd profited coming past with 300m to go.

Brits David Millar and Mark Cavendish were 26th and 27th respectively. Monday could be Cav's day to come through, while Millar will be waiting for Tuesday's time trial.

What did you make of today's race and will Cav go for it tomorrow?

The Bull crushes the breakaway. Well done to Thor Hushovd.

Big few days for the Brits, two proper flat stages coming up and a time trial - although Millar hasn't really impressed me in a time trial for a while now.

I am disillusioned. The lack of time bonuses was apparently 'manufactured' to allow a French stage winner. And lo! we have a four-man all French breakaway. Had Moreau @ 39 seconds been allowed to stay away he could have upset the GC, but with no time bonuses the peloton just amble along not really giving a damn. Sure it was a good finish but no thanks to this bizarre rule change.

to be fair i'd never liked the time bonuses anyway, am i not correct in saying that cadel evans would have won last year if there was none,

surely winning the stage is bonus enough, why do they need the additional time benefit as well?!

Good days viewing on Eurosport
strange discussing it on Beeb as they are wimbledon centric.

Sam the Man, we don't have TV rights to the Tour but we are broadcasting through the BBC Sport website (good if you are in the office on weekdays) and also most days on Sportsextra live, if not then rebroadcast later. We start most days at 1500BST but we'll be on earlier for certain stages - check the listings on the cycling index.
