Live - British Grand Prix

Formula One
comment on the article

Hello there race fans, how we doing? I do hope you're bang up for a massive, massive day of Grand Prix action from Silverstone?

The first word, today, has to go to our man at the track Andrew Benson...

"It's been raining overnight - and it was still coming down quite hard as I came into the track at 0800 - and the prospects for an exciting race look good.

"Silverstone in the wet often produces the goods. If it's dry, the Ferraris, which are lower on the grid than their true race competitiveness, will be faster than they were in qualifying, when they struggle to get their front tyres up to ideal temperature.

"At the same time, the McLarens work their tyres harder than the Ferraris and while that is an advantage in qualifying, it is a disadvantage in the race.

"The rain will have washed the rubber off the track overnight, further bringing the conditions towards the red cars.

"Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton will be desperate to get ahead of Mark Webber's Red Bull as soon as possible, as they could easily be out of the running if they are stuck behind him for a few laps.

"Equally, Webber is as hard as they come, and is in no mood to make things easy for them.

"And then there is Ferrari's Felipe Massa and BMW's Robert Kubica, in ninth and 10th places through no fault of their own, who will themselves be in no mood to hang around.

"Delicious."

Manufan87:-

Many "DO" have a personal problem which is a mystery to me and others. But its obvious his race has something to do with it. What else can it be.
Stupid excuses like oh itv talk about him too much, he has a smug smile and the FA saga last season just seem like cowardly excuses. But LH just keeps on roaring back. What I like about him is that he is willing to take risks and admit his faults when he makes one but his mental toughness and will to win is something most British sportsmen/women/teams lack in abundance.

Its only a matter of time when he will win the F1 championship, and for those who say what has he won..this is only his second season, came second last season with just one point behind the champion. If you look at greats like Senna, Prost, Schumacher..i dont recall any of them winning the F1 championship in the first 2-3 years or even coming close.

Great weekend Williams Sisters win the double and Venus the women's single and Lewis Hamilton
win the GB grand prix. The shear hatred and negative comments these 3 superstars get is unprecedented.

LEWISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HAMILTON WINS!!!!!!!

SENSATIONAL!!! Oh did someone say a few weeks ago that Lewis Hamilton CAN NEVER WIN A RACE when he is not 1st on the grid....well He has just answered you bigots the best way possible
by winning.

Pity for Coulthard. As for Jensen Button how long will he keep just being a partaker.

Hamilton has just proved he can be one of the best drivers Britain has produced by waltzing over the finish line 68 seconds ahead of second placed Heidfeld in the British Gp.And those critics that say it is his car that gives him the advantage over most drivers are talking out of their backsides. The conditions today were merciless and so called better and more experienced drivers failed to finish the race.Well done lad today's race was won on ability..

WOW!! I knew Lewis was good but that performance was from a different planet... At times he was 6 seconds a lap quicker than other drivers on the same tyres.... Sorry but that is different class a whole different world!

Ferrari were awful by the way what were they thinking...?

Massa as I thought would be a joke in the wet and guess what he was! laugh

maweric:- your choice i hop eyou have cable or sky.

To all the LH fans and F1 fans just saw the start of the race what magnificent drive and bravery by LH to get into second place.

This is proving to be a great season. I must admit i felt sorry for Massa...it must be crazy trying to control a car at that speed in crazy wet conditions.

Also good to see the crowd support their own.

and here comes the second lot of rain I predicted............

I was 15 miles out in my weather forecast by the way - the second half of the race was seen in bright sunshine in Daventry.

what a drive. he is supreme in the wet, i remember this time 12/13 months ago there were question marks as to whether or not he could cope in those conditions, but he's proved now that he is not only comfortable, but the best.

australia was good, monaco was really good, but this is brilliant. well done lewis bubbly

Hi Sam - you still out there?

Well done for all your efforts this Grand Prix weekend with putting up some good interactive threads, it has been noted elsewhere by other members.

Do hope that all this attention by the BBC is not a one off just because it was Silverstone and that we will see something similar at the next GP (German) which for your diary is the 20 July 2008.

Look forward to your next article
