I am 100% happy with the amount of money...

Premier League Arsenal
comment on the article

being spent by Arsenal at the moment. We're building a young, exciting squad, competing at the top and look on the verge of something special.

But what does scare me is what will happen a few (hopefully 5+) years down the road when Wenger moves on?(that thought makes me die a little inside!)

Will Wengers successor have the money needed to keep us at the top? As there's no doubt in my mind that Arsene Wenger is the only manager alive who can bring the sort of success we're now accustom to at Arsenal FC with our current budget.

Wenger has his own footballing philosophy on and off the pitch and maybe this is why we don't spend the hundreds of millions other clubs have resorted to.

But if these latest comments are to be believed(I think they're utter $h1t!!!) then we don't have much money to spend and actually need to make a profit on sales each season(as we did last year). With the trend set to continue until our 25 year loan is paid off and as much as I hate to say it Wenger won't be our manager 23 years from now!

Whatever the case right now all is looking rosy, don't let anyone 'especially the media' tell you otherwise. Football is supposed to be about building success not buying it and we're on course to do great things and the way we do makes it all the more special.

Thank F for Wenger and good luck to who ever succeeds him!

The 4th line and most of the 3rd line of the team you've put out would not be able to cope with Prem Football and also where are you planning on getting the money for Huntelaar, around 20 mil, and then also buying replacements for Hleb and Adebayor....

Your Manager's just said that he can no longer buy big, not that he has done....

No he hasn't, a quote from News of the World says he did, personally I'm not entirely convinced by what I read in the tabloids though apparently you are.

There seems to be a fair bit of negativty here. So lets get a few facts straight.

First. The Stadium. Is actually being paid for quicker then anticipated, due to Wenger's shrewd moves over the last two Summers. It is not a noose around our necks. On the contrary, it is the base upon whic Arsenal will be able to compete beyond the Wenger years.

Second : Arsenal have a strict wage budget. AW is asked to rank every member of the Arsenal squad on a scale of one to twelve at the beginning of every season, and they are offered wage deals accordingly. If AW thinks a player has gone up a grade he informs the board who react accordingly.

THREE... If arsenal receive an offer that matches their valuation of the player, they will sell...eg Anelka, Vieira, Overmars, Henry. Arsenal is a business like any other.

Lets not be blinkered here. Arsenal cannot ignore the real world. I dont like seeing our best players leave. But I would much rather see Arsenal have a sound base for the future. Where is Chelsea's base post Abramovich? Man United's debts are much larger than ours, as will Liverpool's be if and when they build a new ground.

We are looking sound in the medium term, compared to our rivals. If we arnt paying the same transfer fees as our rivals, it is because AW is being prudent, not because we cant afford it.

Have faith my friends. Success is close.

In four years time Arsenals annual debt payment goes down to £20million. In 2009 Arsenal will recieve nearly £200million from the sale of the highbury flats. Any talk of Arsenal struggling to pay off their debt is ridiculous.

We ended four points off the top last season. I don't think it's harsh to say we lost it rather than United won it. Four points off the top suggests that we don't need to bring in any more than a player or two, which we have done, to win the title.

That day will never come, and the pathetic thing about it is that you know this very well. Its very obvious how frustrated you are... being a spud your whole life. How's the weather in the bottom half of the table again?

what i dont understand is the mixed messages that we send out. why does outr board state that wenger has money when he clearlly hasnt. why when our annual turnover is 203million and our wages our 90m does a 24m charge completly cripple our transfer sepending. My worry is taht at the rate the chasing pack are spending and hiring quality managers i think from the 2009 season onwards its going to be increasingly difficult for arsenal and liverpool to manintain top4 status

Arsenal makes a profit even with the £24m a year to pay - a figure which is about to decline dramatically after the sale of the flats. Arsenal make a profit already taking the £24m into account. Not a big deal: Liverpool have to come up with that amount every year just to pay for the privilege of being owned by Hick et al. If their new stadium ever does get off the ground, you can bet that figure will be even higher, and as for ManU and their Three-quarter billion debt, you can just imagine what they are having to come up with. So my feeling is that AW is trying to avoid being asked for the full £30m he'll get for Ade when he looks for a new striker. Look at the quote and you'll see he's being quite clear, he says he has to spend less than he gets: a clear message to the entire transfer market.

As for the amount being spent generally - as long as the quality of football stays the same, we won't have too much to be worried about and will always enjoy a trip to the Emirates. The only worry is that without trophies, the likes of Fab et al will eventually pursue their careers elsewhere. I'd say the very most we can take of this kind of thing is maybe two more years AT THE MOST. After that (and who knows? maybe before also), there'll be tears.

We havent won a trophy in 3 years?! WTF is rosy about that?! Wenger is turning our team into a bloody creche....

Wenger himself has said we probably be paying 30 million a year for the next 17 years...we were better off at higbury...the emirates was a step back in my book...
