I am not an expert on cycling. I don't follow it year round. I just love the tour de france. Used to watch it as a kid in the days of indurain and riis on channel 4 and have started watching again since i got freeview.

I have just turned on to watch the preview for this year's tour and found out the 3 best riders from last year aren't in it!!?? Obviously rasmussen was to be expected but i was going to be supporting contador, he was so exciting last year, leipheimer was great too.

This is the problem for the tour and cycling in general, a similar situation to athletics. People who love sport and try to watch the biggest events in many sports are the "floating" fans. If the quality and integrity of the sport is harmed as much as this people lose interest and the sports suffers.

I will probably still watch because it's le tour, but to not have the man i was going to support, and the 3 best riders from last year is a huge dissapointment.

I started watching it last year just to pass the time. Beforehand, I thought it would be very tedious and just provide a background for me to revise on (tut tut). However, I became very involved straight from the off, as it were, and hardly took my eyes off it for a second (that's hyperbole at its finest doh). So, in my opinion, it's definitely worth some of your time.

Oops, that post was out of context. Judging from the title, I presumed you'd never watched it before. What an idiot. Sorry for wasting your time.

i agree that its disapointing that contador etc are not involved this year, to have someone defending there crown always makes a better spectical (eg. the wimbledon final)

however i think the whole drama/soap opera last year actually added to my enjoyment of the event, you never know whats around the corner in the tour.

here's to another dramatic race this year!!
