Looking forward to the tour, love the coverage

a cycling mate told me that since 1966, only 3 riders have been clean, or not have any ongoing allegations against them

Hinault
and Van Impe

I think he possibly mean three "winners" - not three "riders".

Has Contador? Riis, Ulrich, Pantani, Armstrong & Landis have.

It was still only 2 out of 189 last year though. Probably a similar rate in most sports.

Oh what the heck, let's wade into this.

It's not 2 out of 189.

There's Vinokorouv and Moreni which were chucked out. Then there's Mayo who tested positive on the second rest day. Kashechkin had his positive slightly after the tour.

Before the race had even started there was Sinkewitz and Petacchi both failing tests, both of whom were planning to start.

Then of course there's Rasmussen.

In fact the poster has a point. Thevenet and Zoetemelk were on steroids. Roche and Indurain have been implicated via their association with Conconi, Indurain having tested positive for salbutamol. Delgado tested positive for something, can't remember what, I believe it was legal at the time. Ullrich and Fignon took amphetamines. Riis, EPO. Pantani, read Matt Rendell's book for that story. And Landis, testosterone. I don't think I've missed anyone out since Van Impe, although apologies if I have.

It's a sad situation whereby we keep on hoping that Contador is clean, yet we always have Puerto casting a shadow on his achievements and will do until the files are finally released.

I know full well the poster's intention is to troll, but he's right and it's a genuine shame to our great sport. Here's hoping the next winner doesn't have any figment of doubt stapled to his yellow jersey.

delgado - probenecid (spelling?). it was a substance used generally as a masking agent (for more identifiable aids), but he escaped a ban as it was not on the UCI list (even though it was on the IOC list).

hinault - imho - he may have been always clean when he rode the tour....

lemond - i think the fact that he was running on leaded fuel for his last 2 victories may cast some doubt over him, as opposed to his cleaner (unleaded) first victory. groan - apologies

van impe - i honestly cannot say. although i will say the situation with his son earlier this year was absolutely disgusting. it just shows how low some of the regulatory/testing bodies have stooped.

doh! i posted again!!!! i blame the ever credible G_F for this.....
