Melbourne set for twilight GP

Formula One
comment on the article

Melbourne's Albert Park has retained GP rights until 2015, but a 1700 start? Should F1 had Australia's concerns at heart rather than its European audience?

Should F1 had Australia's concerns at heart rather than its European audience? doh

How about a link to what your on about?
How about going back to school?

How can anybody vote this article a 5, must have been Saj.

I like cryptic crosswords but not cryptic BBC threads. (spelling helps a good article too)

<Melbourne's Albert Park has retained GP rights until 2015>
GP?? which type, cars, bikes, speedboats ??

<but a 1700 start?>
Is it a 1700 start or not, you dont make it clear

<Should F1 had Australia's concerns at heart rather than its European audience?
See Jolly's comments

How about next time writing a proper story, try this, An introduction, an explanation of what your trying to say and some sort of conclusion.

i wonder if the mods pull this. For Sajs' sake it may be better if they deleted it altogether

Perhaps one should read the main news story which this article relates to then you would have your introduction, explanation etc that you seem to be requiring. I for one stumbled across this article via the link from the main story!

As for "GP", well seen as though this is in the "Formula One" category I really don't think this needs explaining either.

The thing that I think the start time being changed will affect is the F1 paddock itself, they are used to starting at 1pm/2pm at most tracks but at Australia it will be 5pm. So a different mind set may be required and certainly a different routine come race day.

Given that the largest growing audience for F1 is in Asia surely Ecclestone should have been more focussed on times that suit this audience rather than a European audience.

Still, great news for Melbourne and Australia as a whole. Should be an interesting race.

Living in Melbourne I must say that I am disappointed the state government caved to most of bernie's demands. The 'later' start this year was a joke: 35deg in the grandstands, no shade, and a lot of sunburn/heatstroke victims. 5pm is too late in the day for those at the race, and an 8am timeslot for the supposedly 'crucial' european television audiences is too early. Then there is the fact the event is running at an annual loss of over $30million, before whatever we paid bernie for this latest compromise deal. Much as it pains me to say this - give the race to some other town/country thats willing to bend over for the allmighty $$$.

Hold on though, with sunset at that time of year at 7 pm, it could be a bit dark at the end of the race, especially if there is heavy cloud cover. What if the race start is delayed for quite a while? Will the race have to be abandoned? Might have to have racetrack lighting in place to cover this, so why not just turn it into a night race!

Before I start - does the OP actually work for the BBC or has he just added it to this display name?

Anyway some good news isnt it?
I keep missing the Oz GP qualifying every year and getting up for the Race is a real annoyance.
Now its at 6am here, its going to be better then having it on at 3am.
The MotoGP Fans dont have to suffer the middle of the morning starts for the Oz MotoGP at Phillip Island (5am) so why F1?

I also appuald Australia for telling Bernie how it works out, but to see the race moved to help us gets up will allow the Australians to see the race later on, I bet they in Melbourne are thrilled with this race even later on.
Better for us, better for Europe and everyones happy.

Has a BBC journalist badge on his profile. Could still be freelance, with accreditation I suppose.
Saj C, what's the answer?

As an Aussie, I am totally sick to death of being treated like I don't matter by F1. I am sick to death of sitting up well beyond midnight to watch a race that I KNOW full well was over at a decent hour, surely it wouldn't kill the European folks to get up early ONCE a year, share our pain just ONCE.

Bah, humbug.
