Hamilton is facing a vital weekend

Morning people! I hope you're over the loss of Andy Murray from the Wimbledon Championships because right here, right now, it's all about the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/mot...

It's a crucial 9th weekend of F1 action and it's still all to play for with Ferrari, McLaren and BMW leading the way this campaign.

For the weekend's action, we have our F1 guru Andrew Benson trackside, we have David Croft and Maurice Hamilton on Radio Five Live Xtra, we have my good self pulling it all together and providing my own unique/alternate take on things, and I want you to get involved as much as possible via 606 or text on 81111.

Frankly, you can talk about anything you want today. The teams'/drivers' performance in practice, your tributes to the retiring David Coulthard, which fair-weather celebrity fans will be hanging out at Silverstone hoping for a red-top photo opportunity...

Go for it, you know you want to...

I quite fancy David Croft to commentate if the BBC don't retain James Allen. They'll still need a colour commentator alongside him, I'd hope they'd stick with Brundle but I can imagine them going for Damon Hill instead.

If they can't have Brundle I think they should see if Anthony Davidson wants to do it. He was really good at Hungary 2006, of course he probably would't appreciate the implication that he won't be getting a race drive for 2009 and onwards.

Kovaleinen to win on Sunday on the basis of fastest time on practice 2 on Friday? If that rule held, Ant Davidson would be a World Champion. However, given it's likely to be wet and there'll probably be a safety car or two, I'd put my money on Hamilton given his very "special" way of leading the pack behind the safety car in the rain.

Sam,
Do you have any pics of Coulthard in a kilt? A short kilt? Thanks!

Sheff Hatter bring back Murrey Walker... "And the leader has been overtaken by a Ferrari, no a Renault no a Williams no a BMW, no a Toyota, no a McLaren etc before the co-commentator comes in and says thats the safety car...

Moving to Donington is a poor idea.

Bernie has banged on about silverstone being too hard to get to, but surely Donington will be even worse? The roads leading up to the circuit are also used by those travelling to and from East Midlands Airport. The traffic will be horrendous and the M1 will get so congested.

The track needs updating and the facilities are in dire need of investment and restructuring

Surely all of this money could have been spent on improving Silverstone?

-------------------------

Which is exactly what will happen. Do you really think Bernie would have let it go to Donnington without assurances regarding future development?

Speaking as Moto GP fan who had to put up with appalling facilities at the Donny round I think its the best news I have heard for ages.

Couldn't really care less about F1. Its motorsport for people who don't like racing....winkeye
