Mark Webber extended

Formula One
comment on the article

Following DC's announced retirement today, Red Bull have announced Mark Webber's contract has now been extended to the end 2009.

"I’m very happy to have signed up for another year with Red Bull Racing so early in the season,” said the Australian. “As far back as the middle of last year, it was very clear to me that I enjoyed working with the team, playing my part in its development and helping it move forward. So far this year, our reliability has improved and that’s allowed us to exploit our performance. The progress the team has made in the last ten months has been excellent and I am looking forward to carrying that momentum through to the end of the season.

“Continuing with Red Bull Racing for 2009 was a very easy decision for me to make, as I enjoy being part of this team and that has shown through in my driving. It’s very difficult to predict how any team will perform in twelve months time, but we have some clever people here, with a stable team and I believe 2009 will see us in even better shape for next year, when the technical regulations go through a major change.”"

Any idea's who should partner Webber next year?

Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel is believed to be the favourite for the drive. www.autosport.com/news/repor...

Who will get the Torro Rosso seats do you think? I would like Bourdais to get a 2nd year, I think he needs at least 2 seasons before we can properly evaluate him. Maybe Klien alongside?

At best Vettel, worse Bruno!
Seriously got to be Vettel, interesting to see who takes his place, Sebastien Buemi or Bruno with his Berger connection or who else? Grosjean to Renault, 'if' NP goes?
Making Bourdais the senior driver in his second season, still, Pat Head said he deserved his f1 seat, so he should be good for it.

Btw, Vettel was born on July 3rd so Happy Birthday to Sebastian!

I don't think Button would take a side step to somebody like redbull, He'll stop at Honda for at least another year to see what the Brawn effect has, before moving to mclaren as replacement for Kovaleinan. I think a worthy 2nd man for webber could be Anthony Davidson, who at the moment is 3rd test driver at honda behind Wurz & Kogure.

Why not Alonso?

There was talk of him being linked to RedBull last year, prior to him signing with Renault and he may see RBR as a better prospect for points until the much hyped, potential move to Ferrari becomes a possibility.

Ross is interested in seeing what FA does saltirelass:

"We are fairly happy with our two drivers, we'll be interested to see what Fernando does," the former Ferrari technical director told Reuters at the British Grand Prix.

"He's a great driver and a world champion. If he chooses not to stay at Renault then I think every team would be interested in what he's going to do.

But it's no more than that."

'fairly' happy eh Ross?

Thanks Auto star

I'd not be "fairly happy" if I were Jenson with that school report as an endorsement. But if fairly happy is good then interested must equate to being quite keen imho.

Brawn is right, even though some fans don't rate Alonso after last year, any team looking to win the Constructors championship would be foolish to not to at least consider Alonso for their vacancies.
