Club confirm released players

Premier League Manchester City

comment on the article

Manchester City can confirm a final list of 10 players that have not been retained for the coming season.

Of the 10 released, four were members of the 2007/08 season first team squad, with the other players young Academy lads or reserve team regulars.

Paul Dickov, Geovanni, Emile Mpenza and Jihai Sun are the senior players not to have been offered new contracts by the Club.

The other players released are Irish defender Garry Breen, fellow countryman Michael Daly, Filippo Mancini - son of former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini, striker Ashley Grimes, and Faroe Isles Under 21 international Christian Mouritsen.

There has already been activity surrounding many of the players finding other clubs.

After six years at City, Jihai Sun became a Sheffield United player yesterday, as he signed a two-deal with the Championship side.

Derby hero Geovanni is a reported target for Premier League new-boys Hull City as they look to strengthen their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Following on from a successful end to last season on-loan at Blackpool, City legend Paul Dickov remains a target for the Seasiders and striker Emile Mpenza has attracted interest from Premier League and Championship clubs.

As was reported back in May, Ashley Grimes has agreed a contract to link up with former City coach, Kenny Jackett at Millwall next season.

And finally Hereford United yesterday signed Garry Breen on a one-year deal as the Bulls prepare for life in League One following their promotion from Coca-Cola League Two.

Why do city always take so long confirming everything?????

Personally also thought Geo deserved a better crack of the whip. As our goals for dried up mid-season, a number of times he came on and looked like our biggest/only threat going forward - willingness and ability to take on and beat a man in the final third. For me he deserved a starting place over Stephen Ireland for most of the season.

Great news, now we need a LB, a DM and a winger. and just like Mr Cook said this morning: " We’re not going to sit and wait. This is too big a football club for that. There is no hiding the fact that success for this club is imminent"

Dont you just love him.

Come on City.

ScottyB,
I agree with you, Geovanni looked like a very promising player, and it kills me to say that after he scored against us last season.
But that never affected our title, so good luck in the future Geo, you have many good years ahead of you.

Mpenza isn't a bad player, he just never really found the right strike partner, and never really settled, but he won't be missed. Good luck though Emile.

Jihai Sun, I personally don't think will be missed at all. An average defender, who you never knew what to expect off. Hopefully he settles well at his next club. Good luck Sun.

The Thing is sweetSubsea, it never affected us winning the title. So as far as im concerned you shouldn't be handing out cocky remarks to Man United fans, when your team was in the top 4, and going well, until they blew their chances. MUFC till I die. Double Winners, 07/08. Back-to-back titles 06/07-07/08. Unlike the supporters of some clubs, we don't have to talk about the past, although we have a fantastic one, becuase we are still winning trophies, and will continue to do so.

Do you reckon Mpenza would;

a) come to Norwich?
b) do a job for us if he did?

tony munky Canary,
Mpenza may go to Norwich if they are interested, and Im sure he would be a good signing. He would do very well and could return with a decent goals tally. However, a newly promoted club, such as Hull or Stoke, would attract him more, if they were interested.

with all the managers coming and going, its a wonder anyone in the team gets to settle,as all managers seem to want to put their"stamp"on the team by bringing in their own players and,of course, releasing the previous managers signings.I hope more than anything that mr.Shinawatra understands the benefits of stable management, thru the good and bad times,like-dare i say it-that red team not a million miles from our blue one.i think the results of that stability speak for themselves.

Sorry to interrupt all the bickering, but what do you City fans make of Paul Dickov. He has come to my local MLS side Toronto FC on trial - is he any good at his age?
