Does THFC's silence speak volumes?

Premier League Tottenham Hotspur
comment on the article

I know we have a policy of not commenting of speculation BUT every now and then when so strong speculation about key players/staff is published we do respond, to clarify the position. Most recently (April) JR responded to quotes about King's future.

This talk of our vice captain and Mr Tottenham, Keane, is strong rumour, repeatedly printed in the papers and a real worry to 99% of spurs fans. I would have expected the club to clarify the position but the lack of offical comment from THFC and Keane says to me that there is something in it.

We keep setting unhealthy precedents. It started with selling Carrick then losing Arnesen. Now Berba & his agent have been talking about his exit and THFC have done nothing to deny it.

Man Utd have been very clear about Ronaldo, Villa have been very clear about Barry, Liverpool about Torres etc

Should we comment about Berbatov / Keane etc or will public comment only lead to a public spat like the Barry situation.

I do believe that even if Keane wished to go to LFC he would not behave like Barry, he is respectful and loyal.

As far as loyalty goes it is a two-way street. All of us want berba & Keane to stay and expect their loyalty, but on the other hand we all want us to get rid of Boateng/Ghaly etc even though they have contracts and are entitled to see them out. We cannot have our cake & eat it.

All in all, although it is frustrating I think Spurs should keep quiet. What will happen will happen whether public statemenrts are made or not. It is embarrassing to get in a public argument carried out in the media between club & player or club & club. If we begin commenting on some speculation we will have to comment on everything.

The transfer window is a real love hate thing. It is exciting to be linked with players and sign players but on the flip side the talk of big players leaving is always so depressing.

At least now they are back at training and hopefully the team will bond again and talk of players departing will die down.

COYS!

On the WHU site there's an article which says that Ferdinand on returning to pre-season training has said that until Curbs tells him he's not a WH player he remains one and loves playing there.

Oaky, not much there but given the speculation about him in the recent weeks, that's what other have been saying RK should now do. I'm no judge but it's one way to deal with speculation.

Sickening, but I think Keane's head has been turned. I now seriously loathe Liverpool & Benitez in particular.
===================================

Is that because you think they have acted badly or just because you'd be sorry to see Keane go?
I can accept that Liverpool have acted badly in the Barry saga but this seems above board so far.
=============================================

A bit of both....I thought Keano was a rare case these days of someone who has really found "his" club; He hasn't always been great at Spurs but the fans have always backed him...to get some loyalty back, once in a while, would be refreshing.

Re Liverpool's behaviour....most clubs do it...big fish eat the little fish...but Liverpool seem to be plumbing new depths, and on the tail of the Barry saga it doesn't reflect well on them.
Why do the papers know of it all? The two boards should speak, and if Spurs say "no"...that should be it.

Mattenghast: how can this be above Board when no offer appears to have been made, yet it's being speculated in the Press as being Liverpool's firm intention.It didn't get there by itself, not in the case of Keane who had recently pledged himself to the club [or was he tapped-up at his wedding, perhaps?]. That's completely underhand.You talk to the club first, not in the way Rafa Benitez does business.

I mean, do Scousers really want their club to become the pariahs of the EPL?

To be fair, Spurs SHOULD talk, it matters to the fans, its a big big deal, either Keano or Spurs should speak out.

This silence is similar to the Carrick situation.

But as far as I've seen so far this is just like any other rumour. It's very rare these days for a *surprise* transfer to go through. There is usually some sort of story in the press before transfers occur.

Like I said, from what has come to light I can see where Villa fans are coming from RE Barry and it makes me sad as a Liverpool fan. But all I've heard about Keane is the usual speculation, nothing to indicate tapping up etc. Just because the press have a sniff of something doesn't mean Liverpool have leaked a story to unsettle Keane does it?

"We are unable to comment on the future of Robbie Keane as to do so would not only require us to address every other issue, but also contradict our faith in his personal assurances"

Does this not give you an answer? Am I reading too much into this or does the message pretty much say that Robbie has said he wants to stay and to keep going on about it would look like the club don't have any faith in his assurances?

Sorry teddy_sheringham_125, but you can read "contradict our faith in his personal assurances" to mean the exact opposite too. I've read it ten times now. I'm not sure it actually says anything apart from "no comment".

Keane has made "personal assurances". Now has he done this recently, further to LFCs interest or is this referring to the interview he gave in May when he said he loves Spurs and wants to remain as long as he is wanted.

Personally i think that if we were willing to sell he would happily go but he will not show disloyalty like Barry has & Villa and stamp his feet until he is allowed to leave. He is a bigger man than that & a blo0dy nice bloke too.

I think if RK had said recently to the club that he does not want to go then he might have commented publically, to clear things up. This response from the club indicates that Spurs do not want him to leave and want him to stick with the assurances given.

Overall, i think Spurs have got themsleves in a situation over the years when they feel that a stupid offer would be enough to compenstae for the loss of a key plyer. I think it is wrong. We got £18m for carrick but have never replaced him despite splashing £8 on Zakora, £5m on Boateng. Sometimes it is not always better to have money in the bank becuase you cannot gurantee replacing quality with the same quality............how the hell will we replace the quality of Berbatov. Almost impossible i would say unless we take a risk and hope it comes good, like when we bought Berba.

If we sold berba & got in Villa then maybe i would not be so unhappy but players of that profile will always go to a massive club
