Button sees end to waiting game

Formula One

comment on the article

Jenson Button and Honda face a difficult British Grand Prix weekend with an uncompetitive car.

But both team and driver are convinced things will be different in 2009.

Read our feature news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/mot... and tell us what you think about Honda's future prospects.

Will next year's rule changes help them get to the front, as they believe, or do they face a long, hard battle before they can achieve their aims?

cider:

1) "If Williams can reverse their decline..."
2) "I wonder if Button regrets jumping out of his Williams contract?"

1) gives the answer to 2).

I hope that Honda do improve so that Button can offer a decent challenge to Hamilton and in doing so remind the British press that there are other British drivers in F1. I believe that Ross Brawn and his team will produce a much more competitive car in '09. I mean look how he improved Benetton and Ferrari.

Cider,

I have to disagree about the consistency over the last 2 years. Rubens has been better this year but last year i think they were reversed.

Honda has a good chance of making that leap up towards the front and apart from a Kimi Alonso line up how many better line ups could you really get at the moment.

Honda need a Damon Hill type driver who will give them the right feedback. Jenson is rubbish at good feedback, he is like Montoya only quick if he has got a good team mate to get the car right. Look what happened to Montoya once he had to develope his own car, same problem with both Honda drivers. To win Honda need new drivers including the test drivers. If Honda with their might and motor racing history had a Damon Hill they would be challengers right now.

That's not what Ross Brawn says. D'you think he, perhaps, knows more than we do?

Fleetfoot

To win they need two new drivers and test drivers?

Alex Wurz is now a test driver for Honda isn't he, pretty much the best one their is.

How would Damon Hill make them challengers when the car is two seconds a lap off the pace? Would he make up THAT much?

damon hill was never any great shakes as a F1 driver , average ,nothing more, his various team mates proved that -

how in gods name would someone of his limited ability improve a bucket like the honda ,--

Jenson is an average F1 driver, and will never achieve anything substancial, if some people hold him in the same reguard as Kimi, Lewis and Fernando i'll order what they have been smoking!!

most of the recent improvements in F1 cars have come from aerodynamics [ engine / electronic development banned for example ]

so with major changes in aero coming any of the teams with plenty of money might get it right and become top dog ....and honda certainly have the money and the will...and finally the right man making the decisions

so I reckon button has got a good chance to get back where he belongs by staying at honda , and it could well be a good move for alonso

if you think about it button could well have been double world champion at renault , but alonso's manager happened to be the team manager so guess who got the job

despite the fact that renault got to the top thanks to the french connection [ tuned michelin tyres , as well as wonderful electronics , neither of which are now permitted ] they could have the best car next year ...after all they have the biggest budget of any british based team , but who knows ...alonso got out when the end of the michelin day's became know , and I reckon he knows better than us , so maybe not

ferrari
renault
mclaren
BMW
toyota
honda

have the most resources , and there doesn't look to be a lot between them engine wise

going to be interesting ...especially who is going to drive where
