New Season focus

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

As we enter preseason in our most important season for twenty years, there is massive importance to the squad being focused and ready to hit the groung running come the 16 August.

Forget about last years 0-0's with Brimingham, Pompey and defeats at Reading etc, NOW is the time to start showing what this squad of player are capable of and seriously challenging and making big noises at the top of the league.

1. Possible arrivals

Robbie Keane? Barry? Dossena? Degen?

The latter three, good players make a good squad, and on the subject of Robbie Keane, i like. If this very ambitious transfer were to happen, by way of a transfer request and paying Spurs valuation, then Rafa could quite possibly have made one of his best signings in his time at Liverpool. Barry and Keane would add depth, experience and flexibility to an already talented squad.

2. Carrying on from where we finished

Who can argue with our form as we finihsed the season with goals galore and only a tragic last few mins in the 1st CL Semi to upset the rhythm. We were scoring at will and the Torres/Gerrard connection was in full flight. Kuyt knew what was expected of him, Carra and Skrtel were solid and even Fabio Aurelio was playing very well.

Start the season with a strong focus, be clinical, want every ball, and good things will happen.

Over and out.

Have any of us really had an extensive look at the way Degan can play?

Her played for Basle, Bor Dortmund etc...

Its not like we have open access to their football.!

I think its best leave it to the scouts who found him. Who are we to judge until displayed?

I would use Barry on the left if he joined,He has a decent left foot, but the Gerrard and Mascharano must start the season in the centre to create a partnership, that why Rafa has identified Robbie Keane to play up front with Torres. Both Benayoun and Alonso will get games, because of Rafa's rotation policy, but for the real important ones, the midfield must be.Thats if Barry is signed, and Rafa signs Barry and Robbie Keane or another striker.
liverpools midfield 4.
Babel S.G. Masch Bary.

Barry. Has. No. Pace.

He cannot beat people. He is wasted on the left.

Liverpool will play like this if they sign Barry:

Reina

Degen Carragher Agger Dossena

Mascherano Barry

Kuyt Gerrard Babel

Torres

"Subterranean"

Finally somebody who agrees Torres should be a lone striker. Why focus on a new striker when the product you have up front at the moment is world class already and has the pace to challenge on his own.
Despite being a utd fan i think if liverpool had tevez or perhaps even Podolski they would have the more strong presence in the box behind torres with gerrard.
A triangle attack formation with torres at the tip would be great for a team of this style!

Mascherano at the Olympics: Liverpool will miss him a bit but I'm sure they'll cope, but they'll have to for quite a while if Argentina progress as Liverpool will then give him some more time to recover.

Last i checked this topic was on would mascherano be missed through playing on the olympics, not about Degen.

Mascha is a top player and would be missed by any team but Alonso is more than a good enough replacement for the time being.

Ok Alonso ain't as tenacious tracking back and tackling but hes got a good work rate and his passing is so much better than Mascharano's.

As long as the team plays well as a whole then he wont be missed, if we start badly and let teams come onto us too much, that is where we might miss mascha.

I am surprised at all of the negativity surrounding the Barry transfer. I personally think it makes great sense and even if we do have to pay over the odds (most top teams do) then it will be worth it in the long run.

Barry and Gerrard are good friends, when this kind of friendship evolves on the pitch you will start to see some sublime play between these two mark my words.

When I was a teenager I played defensive midfield for a local German team along with my best friend. Whilst we were no where near the quality of Barry / Gerrard the friendship that we had certainly gave us a cutting edge on the pitch.

I just hope we don't have to loose Alonso to make the deal go through as I would rather have all three.

I also think that we will be able to cope without Masch while he is away trying to get Gold. We have a great youth team we can call on if our transfer targets don't happen.

Regarding Dossena and Degan, I have never seen them play so I will reserve judgement for when I do.

I am still a bit dubious about Keane and not sure if he will fit with Torres. I still think Crouch should be given a better chance to work with Torres up front.

Selling Alonso would weaken our title chances in August without Mascherano
