I feel almost like I have no right to comment on this seeing as in following the tennis a majoirity of english people have made there stance on scotlands involvement in british causes quite clear.

However, I do actually feel quite strongly about this and frankly it's disgusting that Formula 1 bosses are prepared to sell out to countries promoting themselves as sound economic investments. furthermore, I think in order to keep certain competitions meaning as much as they do they have to stick to certain traditions and britain dominates the champions list with more drivers and champions than any other nation (though if we're getting all andy murray again, I'd like to point out we don't if you disown the scots :p ) same with the constructors.

Yet more evidance that money means more than anything in the sporting world. If Mr E and F1 pull out of Silverstone and the British GP then i think British TV should pull out of F1. Who here will want to watch this sport if there is no British GP. For 60 years Britain has supported F1 isnt it about time F1 supported us.

The case for Silverstone is very simple, regardless of Me E's views. Without the British GP, F1 WILL BECOME A THING OF THE PAST! Everybody within the sport from the FIA to the teams and the drivers need to make their feelings clear. Lose the history and the sport will become a toy for the rich which will not be supported by true motor racing fans.

Here's a thought for you - why don't ALL of the manufacturers (inclusing Ferrari) form a break away series and ditch Bernie ... that will put the poison dwarf in his place.

Silverstone certainly has it's issues but Brands/Donington... come on !

Yes, they're both better to drive and better to spectate and just "feel" better... but they are simply not capable of hosting an event of this size. Silverstone certainly has the best access. I raced at brands a couple of weeks ago and the paddock could barely cope with a big club meet. Silverstone is the only British choice unless the others have a couple of hundred million spent on them !

As mentioned, sports definitely need their historic homes. It's part of what they are. Can you imagine the masters not at Augusta ! ?

I'm firmly in the 'move it to Donington' camp. I think it's a better circuit in almost every respect, the transport links are second to none and the elevation at Donington makes it a spectator's dream; you just can't compare it to the flatness of Silverstone where you only get to see the bit of track right in front of you.

True, we'd lose the drama of Silverstone's first sector and the facilities would need a similar spend to bring them up to Bernie's 'standards' but we'd gain the Craner Cruves and the top of the circuit is renowned for catching out the unwary, due to the aviation fuel that drifts down on to it from the airport!

We need a British Grand Prix for sure, but if Bernie can't come to terms with Silverstone, we're better off throwing in our chips with Donny instead.

Silverstone puts a lot of money into our local economy, not least because of all the F1 teams which are in the area. The problem with Eccleston is that he is only concerned with money and how much of it is his. The problem with F1 is that it has outgrown its supporters. Racing at Silverstone in the fifties was exciting and comparatively inexpensive. We also had grand prix races at Aintree, Goodwood and Oulton Park.(OK not THE British Grand Prix but the cars certainly).
Eccleston has too much control over F1 and is spreading it too thinly over the ground. The sport should be for us, the spectators and not for Governments to decide where F1 will go.
May I just add that Donnington is not the answer, the circuit is too short. It was, after all simply an elongated elipse in its original form.

I can't really describe my loathing for Mr E. I only go to 3 GP's a year Monza Silverstone Imola. Imolas gone and now they threaten Silverstone. He's a joke, infact I might go and be a hooligan at QPR just to cause him hassle. He's destroying the sport I love and it breaks my heart. I clearly remember him saying one GP per country so he took Imola away & added another to Spain, is he really that Brainless, infact Imola was classed as the San Marino GP different country admitedly it wasn't as up to date, but there was nothing more satisfying than sitting in the stands with a glass of champagne listening to the roar of the Ferrari. Instead he's giving away heritage at a price, obviously all the OIL rich countries & industrial powers will cash in. Bahrain, China, Dubai, South Korea?, any other ideas? Im sure theres plenty! I will send another futile letter to Mr E. Although I'm 100% sure it never leaves the envelope and if it does only to go in the bin it will never reach his eyes sadly.

Maybe I'm on my own in my thoughts but nonetheless it annoys me.
