Well you dont, you can just make a judgement from what you know of the man as a player -

A) very skilful and intelligent player, equally effective as a teamwork passing linking midfielder or more advanced in a creative and goalscoring role. So he know how to attack, defend, and play midfield.

B) Is known and probably respected not only in england, but also in italy, which is a very important market for buying players. he will have good relationships with managers and directors in Italy as well as england

c) seems like quite a studious and intelligent man. not a stuart pearce style ranter and raver, which is always a good sign

d) was never an arrogant or over valued player, so knows humility and has not had such wild sucess as a player as to not be hungry anymore. He will think that he can possibly become more recognized and succesful as a manager than he was as a player.

So no, no one has a crystal ball to tell if someone is going to be a good manager before they actually do the job. but based on factors, you can make a pretty good estimate. Yeah its risky, but that is the point in taking a risk. you could go for a safer option but you gamble in the anticipation of acheiving greater success. Martin allen had more experience than ince, but ince clearly was the better manager. so experience doesnt always count for much.

how about martinez at swansea? he had little managerial experience, but has used his contacts in spain to lure players to swansea that otherwise would not have joined the club and it has worked. di matteo could have a similar effect

mysteryspinner:

according to reports in the papers, Di Matteo is currently getting his qualifications and is nearly finished, which is more than Ince has got. so get your facts right before you open your gob

It is a brave move and i hope it works out well.

As others have said you never know how a player will cope when they switch to management. Some have gone on to great success, others have crashed and burned.

Di Matteo was a big name player and is a big name to get as your manager.

Hopefully he will be a success and will remain at the Dons for some time to come enabling them to have some stability after becoming the 3rd manager in 3 seasons.

Intresting. A legion of Italian managers has invaded England and Scotland, all lead by Don Fabio!

I met the guy, think he's been living in London somewhere. Best of luck to him and hope he can carry on good work that Paul Ince started.

How any self respecting football person can get involved with Franchise FC is beyond me.

Add him to the list of scabs who should know better.
