SAF : ONLY ONE SIGNING EXPECTED !

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

SIR Alex Ferguson expects the end of Euro 2008 to herald a busy spell in the transfer market but insists Manchester United are only looking at bringing one player in.

The United manager has targets, but after a season in which his team won the Barclays Premier League and Champions League he is confident in the quality they already possess.

Ferguson said: "The European Championship derails transfer activity. Nothing really happens when the championships are on.

"Obviously, now that is all over, people settle down.

"Managers are back at their clubs and you can get some dialogue now if they are interested, but I wouldn't think (we would buy) any more than one player.

"We are looking at one or two things."

Ferguson will continue to monitor movement in the market but does not see many transfer dealings being straightforward.

He said: "People think it's easy to buy players nowadays, but it's not because money plays a big part first of all.

"Clubs with ambitions don't want to sell their best players, so it's not as easy as you'd think and we tend to look for younger ones."

Ferguson was speaking at the Great Scots Cup charity golf event, held at the Carrick course by Loch Lomond where he is the honorary captain.

Proceeds from the event were to be donated to Ferguson's charity, Elizabeth Hardy Ferguson Trust Fund, and the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.

simple we just need a good old fashioned goal poker like all teams do, but idealy one who has other tallents too, like Van Nistelrooy as a good example, he didnt mind the tap ins, but was a great finisher as well. and Rooney, Tevez and form what i have seen of Manucho arent that kind of striker, Saha would be fine if fit, but unfortunatley never is becuase when was fully fit he has played well

We have a superb team. Check out our trophy cabinet. If the boss says we're only signing one player, then trust that's all we need.

Personally I think if Saha can stay fit, we don't really need any new signings as we've got some great youngsters ready to come through and made 4 great signings last pre-season.

SAF has built such a superb squad..youth, experience, depth, options and a couple of the best players in the world. Why spend millions just for the sake of it just to keep the short-attention span tabloid readers happy?

Those who criticised the Glazier's debt are now criticising us for paying some of it off rather than frittering our money away on spare players. I seem to recall lots of criticism last year for us buying Tev, Hargreaves, Anderson & Nani rather than paying off our debts. Well I think that worked out ok in the end. Let's see some of your little clubs bang in 100+ goals and win a few doubles & trebles before you criticise us.

Best to leave the managing to the great man, eh? I think he knows what he's doing.

Championes, championes, ole, ole ole.

Unlike teams like liverpool - we have a team that doesn't really need improving.

Its true our team may have won champions league and premiership league but there is always room for improvement. I personally think that if Saha would manage to stay fit then there really isn't a need for more players, but at the same time I trust Sir Alex Ferguson to do the right thing, he has brought us many victories. Go Man Utd!!!!!!!!!

Even if Ronaldo goes, which seems to be looking ncreasingly unlikely (touch wood), I think we'd be fine without bringing much in. I'm not saying United are definitely going to win the league next season or anything, but whatever happens, I expect us to be challenging. Even on free kicks and penalties, more than enough cover is available I actually rate Hargeaves as better at pens, and even at free kicks, even the Portsmouth free kick was lucky by Ronaldo's own admission.

I have to say, im watching alot of competitions, including the dutch competition, as i am dutch. But i think when i have to look at players that fit within the Man U squad and would make them better, Huntelaar can be 1, he's sort of the "younger v Nistelrooy", has an eye for the goal and allways at the right place to finish for a goal. But the main player i like goes by the name Jeremain Lens, he's fast, technically well has an eye for the goal and can give a decent pass, he is the main reason a club that always has to fight against relagation suddenly wins 18 games in a row ( including a 6-0 win). Next to that i always have a soft spot for Ricardo Quaresma, i think if he played left winger and Ronaldo center forward or right winger Portugal could do alot more against germany, 2 players that can really open up a game. Another player i like is an Argentinian player called Andres Rios, still very young, 17 if im correct, but will be a great players if he keeps developing the way he does.

We definatly need to bring in a striker - theres no question about that - someone to replace what we had in Teddy and Ole - a "starter" quality player but a great bench player. Hard to find since everyone wants playing time - which is why I dont think berbatov is that guy.

I'd also like to bring in a "swing" defender, someone quite versatile at the back - but this depends on Nev's and Silvestre's fitness next season - if those two are actually fit we probably have enough cover at the back.

Midfield is sorted and we dont want to add any more really there.

SAF obviously knows that - and as one or two posters have said - we cant rely on Saha, 1 or 2 games and he's nearly always out again.

Re mufc one love - We havent paid off any of the debt we've just been pating interest on their debt, and we haven't bought Tevez! Also articles suggesting we won't be spending much this year after spending so much last summer, seem to forget that we've sold £35m of players since.

I think we are strong enough and just to keep rooney and tevez on their toes i would like to see Huntelaar at united. And hopefully Park has more appearances as he is my tip for stardom next season, Park, Park, wherever you may be, you eat ...., but it could be worse, you could be a scouse, eatin .......... council house.....!
