Assen MotoGP discussion

Moto GP
comment on the article

After all the hoop-la and excitement of Donington, it's a case of another week, another race - and this time the MotoGP travelling circus hitches its caravan at Assen.

Casey Stoner's devastating disply in qualifying indicated he is still on the hot run of form that saw him streak away from the field at Donington, and with Jorge Lorenzo still tentatively making his way back to action after injury, it is likely to be down to Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa to try and challenge the Australian.

So what are your hopes, dreams and expectations for the day? Is it really a three-way battle, or are we totally misguided, and is there someone who you think is ready to make a big-time challenge this weekend?

Over to you....

Well for close racing I have to agree that BSB and WSB are providing more entertainment, but not much interest in discussing these series on these forums I noticed??
Neurkirchner to come from 14th and win shows Suzuki are on the way up. Shakey Burne to Xerox Ducati next year with the retirement of Troy Bayliss? Could we see a return for Shakey Burne in Motogp in 2 years?
BMW entering the championship for the first time, they better make some nice looking sports bikes, as durable as their lineup is, they are also UGLEE!

The ugliest bikes known to man...made for suits in mid life crises so that they can avoid traffic on the way to work...

Are you sure? lol...nah...bmw's are just not up to scratch when it comes to creating beautiful bikes...put the K1200S beside a Ducati 1098S... It would be like standing Cherie Blair beside Angelina Jolie...

Hmmm ... Angelina Jolie ... point taken!

Do you guys think there is anyway back for Hayden for this year or do you think his time at Honda is over? It's strange that Honda cannot things out for him since changing to the 800cc bikes.

I personally think they are concentrating on Pedrosa at Honda as he seems to be their best chance for the championship. Its hard to say whether Hayden would be much better with a bit more support. I think 2005 was a bit of a fluke but in saying that he did win, even though it was by a small margin. He seems to be very interested in leaving Honda though so my money would be on him moving. He seems to want Ducati but Stoner seems to be the only guy who can control that beast and may make it look easy. So it would be a gamble for Hayden. Melandri was a great rider but look at him now..so its so hard to predict how well Hayden would do on his bike.

Angelina Jolie on a 1098.....Mmmm perfect.

Hayden needs to resurrect his career away from Honda, Ducati tried to poach him in 2006 but he turned them down, perhaps this is the time, he needs to move from under Pedrosa shadow and stop getting his arse kicked by his team mate, he is a world champion after all.

1st rule of racing, beat your team mate, when was the last time he did that?

I agree, Casey Stoner is a world class rider and it is clear that Casey and his crew work magically together as a team for set-up and development. It has always been the case that riders such as Hailwood, Doohan and the rest who understand and can communicate what they need to a crew that knows how to listen will always be atthe front. Other world class riders are for example Rossi, Hayden, Predrosa etc. In contrast to the Cssey Stoner team, look at Hayden, who last year had everything thrown at him by Honda, who did then and still does labour tirelessly in testing, yet is still outgunned by Pedrosa on track. My point is that it is not just the rider, it is the whole team that counts. As to the brits booing Casey, that is highly undeserved and unsportsman-like. I get the impression that reaction is just public ignorance when faced with a less exuberant personality than someone like Rossi who people loved to bits even when he dominated proceedings measured in double figures. The racing was still boring at the front of the field then, and I agree the politicians have doused it down still further with the petrol rationing.

So what was this thread about again?
The Dutch TT was as dull a race as I've seen before, however the 125 5 lap race was stunning

Because the front runners didnt put up much of an exhibition, there were other battles taking place further afield like Edwards for example, he rode brilliantly, I wouldnt call that dull.
