Is this Andy Murray's year. Two comfortable wins without losing a set. pretty awesome stuff from our man. Can he win Wimbledon this year??

It's truely unbelievable how you can make one jokey comment and the press can take it entirely out of context and the majority of people will believe it!

Murray made one joke and now seemingly every English footbal fan refuses to acknowledge it for what it really was.

I'm going to have to watch what I say if I ever become famous! I've done exactly the same thing in the past, and still do today. In fact, I have a friend in Germany, and when he asked who I would be supporting in the Euro 2008 quarter finals, I said "Portugal of course!" ... I didnt really mean it, but it was meant to poke fun at him, and this exactly what Murray was doing to Henman in the interview.

Fact is, Murray is a brilliant TENNIS player, and anyone who refuses to support him because of a quote about FOOTBALL several years ago, is quite frankly an idiot doh

"What time does it start?"

I believe Murray is due on court at about 3pm.

Why would anyone have reason to think he could win Wimbledon this year, I mean WHY? WHY?!! What has he ever done to suggest he could win a grand slam?? NOTHING!

Never got past the fourth round of a slam, never made a final of a masters series event. Again, WHY??? This has nothing to do with talent or disliking the guy, results have to give some indication of abillity to win.

Overhype once again.

"never made a final of a masters series event"

yes he has. probably should check your facts a bit better. I mean I see your point but you totally discredit it by making incorrect statements.

prior to 2005 season Nadal had won 1 ATP event (with a poor field playing the tournament!) and then he won 2 master series and French Open in the space of a month and a half! He had shown no signs of being the top player on clay up until that point! Sometimes things just click for a player! i'm by no means saying Murray will win Wimbledon, but you dont have to have won 5 tournaments running up to a grand slam to stand a chance of winning it! I would expect Murray to beat haas maybe in 4 sets! then Gasquet will be a massive test (providing he wins!!)

yeah fair point about Nadal, but then I think anyone talking about him winning the French at that time would also have been over-speculating a bit. Except that as you say, he had won the master series on clay. If Murray had won ANY masters series (regardless of surface) got to a slam final, or even won Queens, I'd understand a bit of speculation about him winning the title, but til then, no. Course it still is technically possible, but that doesn't make it likely.

By the way, NapoleonEinsteinIsGod - don't apollogise or anything... laugh

this sounds stupid but my greatest fear is that gasquet dosn't turn up mentally or dosn't find form (has happened many times) murray puts him out easily, then miraculously beats nadal in the the wimbledon showdown of the year, then gets bundled out by one of the unseeded guys in the semi.

I mean, semi of wimbledon would be great but I don't think I could take that sort of come down.

I do believe he can beat gasquet, he's certainly not a league above murray like nadal is.
