Calzaghe v Jones Jnr is irrelevant

comment on the article

Im a big fan of both fighters - have both their careers on dvd as a matter of fact - Seems strange to me however that Joe can say "what a way to finish my career" To me this means nothing in terms of either fighters legacy - both are now over the top and i always thought that proving you were the best was by beating the new kid on the block - the guy who everyone thought was gonna take ur title or status as no.1 away - Thats why in my opinion he should be fighting Pavlik,Froch or even chad dawson

Think a lot of people are missing the point, it aint about Pavlik or whether Calzaghe would win or lose against him, its the fact that Joe is going to end his career fighting a couple of faded former 40yr old champs, what a way to go out, beating Hopkins & Jones now doesnt mean a jot, surely even Calzaghes biggest fan can see that!

Joe want a big final payday and Jones gives him that. Pavlik would be a better fight but despite that he isnt as big a draw yet. Equally would Pavlik really want to step up and fight at 175 or a catchweight between SM and LH? I'm not convinced his team would go for it anyway as Joe doesnt want to go back down as its tough for him to make the weight.

Calzaghe's legacy will be a) Yes he's remained undefeated but b) only cos he ducked out of fighting the best guys at their prime (when there were loads of matches to be made in the late 90's / early 2000's).

Beating (did he really?) an over the hill Hopkins & Jones Jnr) will prove nothing. Didn't Danny Williams beat Iron Mike Tyson??

There have been countless fights like this over the years, Ali/Holmes, Tyson/Holmes, Lewis/Tyson, Leonard/Norris Marquez/Barrera - this fight is just following the same pattern, faded former great trying to ignite the old flame, whilst making a bucket load of money from gullible punters!

i would disagree with that because i think most other fighters e.g hopkins and jones jnr. ducked calzaghe hopkins was more occupied with winning all 4 belts at middleweight and making his money against blown up fighters e.g de la hoya and jones wanted to be the only fighter to win titles at middleweight and heavyweight so they avioded calzaghe because he wasn't a big name but now he is the biggest name and he is repaying the americans with what they gave him when he was coming up and that could be a reason why he is "ducking" pavlik

I dont understand why everyone keeps going on about Calazaghe fighting Pavlik?? or Froch??

Firstly he can do what he likes, secondly, Pavlik and Froch are just after fame and name, that beating Calazaghe will give trhem, Calazaghe feels that these guys have nothing to show for themselves, and he is right, Pavlik only made abit of a household name by beating Jermaine Taylor, Calazaghe beat the best in the divison which is Kessler, who I believe will knock Pavlik's block off easily..

If anything, Froch, Pavlik, Kessler, and whoever thinks they can be champ, should fight amongst themselves prove who is the best and then the winner could have had the right to say to Calazaghe lets fight, otherwise its Calazaghe choice who he wishes to fight.

People can argue all they like about the names on Calzaghe's record the fact is the guy has beaten everyone he's faced, remained champion for over 10 years and won belts at 2 different weights. Its his last fight he's fighting one of the best fighters of his generation. Yes its at the end of both of their careers but why should herisk everything he's achieved by going after one of the young, hungry guys. I agree with him this is a great way for him to finish his career. OK its probably the safer option but don't you think he deserves to do that now after what he's achieved in the sport?

the truth is calazghie wont fight any big hitters he got knocked down by hopkins so think what a big hitter like froch or pavelik would do to him he wants to finish unbeaten and he would do becasue he would beat old man jones dont get me wrong i am a big calazghie fan but i would love to see him fight froch because froch is no1 contender and has been calling out calazghie for a year or two now but calazghie sadly wont fight anyone decent in his last fight

I am a bit fed up with people always slagging Joe Calzaghe off, because of who he is fighting.

People forget that his record doesn't tell the true story of Joe's incredible courage.

Unbeaten so far, no matter what we say about the quality of his opponents and he did it with extremely fragile hands. That my friend takes real guts. Many other boxers would have quit a long time ago with those kind of problems. If you can't say anything good about Joe, just rather shut up and leave the man alone.

If Carl Froch is so great, enstead of challenging the powder soft Jerimy Taylor, why does he not challenge the mans conquorer Kelly Palvic?

Answer: Because he knows he'll get his block knocked off chop, Chop!!

Why is everyonr going on about a five minute campion like Pavlic, he needs to clean up is division first, and froch as won nothing yet. joe as fought everyone put infront of him. Personally I think Jones is a much harder fight than either pavlic and froch. He is still the fastest boxer on the planet that in itself makes himdangerous and he can bang a bit to. Pavliv on the other hand is slow and predicatable just the type of fighter Joe loves to fight. jones brings more money to the table simple as and after a career of 40 fights , Joe like anyone dereves good pay days. Please stop going on about Pavlic as if he is the next coming he as far more to do yet before he desrves a shot at joe!
