Bolt hopes to double up

Olympics
comment on the article

World 100m record holder Usain Bolt believes he can win an individual sprint double at the Beijing Olympics.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/oly...

However, it has only been done by eight men in the history of the Olympics, Carl Lewis being the last to do it back in 1984.

Bolt has the talent, but is winning the double too big an ask? Let us know your thoughts.

I dont disagree with you there independent testing is as good as you can acheive.

I find it funny how in hindsight we have always cast (quite rightly at times) dispersions on say China or the Soviet block when in realiuty a the same time it appears that America who were the suposed beackon of what you can acheive clean (well that how it was portrayed) have had as big an issue with drug cheats as anyone.

From what I've read, Bolt has already been independently tested about 8 times this year. Give the guy some credit. If there was any doubt over his creditibility, it surely would've been found out by now?

Mike and rugby!!1

I must commend you both on putting across very good views.

I am ashmamed of the BBC. How could thay allowed such drivel to be published.

Jamaica is doing the right thing by allowing the IAAF to do the testing for them.

At least it is external and independent.

How do we thrust Britain and America to police their own?

Where is the independence in that?

Who to tell that when Britian and america do their testing - that there is no cover-ups?

James Munro should do his homework before and get a good understanding of the issues before writing garbage.

Asafa And Bolt trains in Jamaica.

Let us assume they have been taken drugs.

So far they havent been caught.

It would therefore mean that a so-called 'third world' country like jamaica biochemical and scientific standards is way advance and superior to the so- called 'developed' world for the drugs in them not to be detected.

A win win for Jamaica I think.

PS: Just being tongue in cheek.

'Ok guys, lets be rational here. Wind assistance is a REAL BIG ISSUE because 9.68 with a tailwind of 4.1 m/s translates to 9.80 with a tailwind of 2m/s. '

As a graduate in maths I'd be very interested to know how you came by this result. Is it purely based on statistics or more complicated than that?

Mr.Pundit, thanks for showing interest in my calculations.Statistics are used as a platform but it's more complicated than that. I would advise that you consult the IAAF's actuary to find out how the official calculations are done in order to satisfy your curiosity!

AND MAY I REMIND "RUGBY RUGBY" THAT AN ATHLETES JOB IS TO TRAIN, STAY HEALTHY AND CLEAN, MAKE A LIVING AND ENTERTAIN THE REST OF US. THE JOB OF TESTING AND POLICING IS THE IAAF'S RESPONSIBILITY, SO PLEASE LET'S CUT THE CRAP AND ENJOY WHAT OUR ATHLETES HAVE TO OFFER!

I didnt say that they had to do it now did I? I suggested that its something they or their sponsors could choose to adopt as unfortunately the current climate particularly towards sprinters is really guilty until proved innocent for the majority of the public it seems.

I didnt at any point suggest that either had used PEDs did I? So what crap you are referring to I dont know, your fellow fans (I'm one as well) seem to have understood my suggestion and its reasoning. Its not something i'm saying they have to do, Gay didnt but chose to as it was there.

I also agree that the current testing programme is probably the best they can be expected to have so whats your point?

Oh and turn capslock off!

Just for the record, Bolt and Asafa do not train in the US. Therefore access to PEDs would be limited. I do believe that the US has a job on its hands to change the prevailing belief that their athletes are beneficiaries of the loopholds that exist in their own system.

I think he will win the double, so it's not too big an ask. He has always had the immense talent, it's just peaking at the right time now. He has matured well, and has improved on his craft. And anyone who has followed his development since he was 15 knows he is NEVER short on confindence, unlike his fellow countryman Powell.
