Over rated Arshavin?

Euro 2008
comment on the article

The guy had a good run last year with Zenit and apart from Bayern they hardly were up against it.
But to read Pat Nevin's report on tonights game is bordering on the idiotic, this is a guy who played the game and to base his thoughts of grandeur and brilliance on a couple of games?
There is no doubt that the Russians are a well balanced team who work extremely hard, but they do not seem to possess the real talent that is being talked about.
Arshavin is a good player but he has only played 2 games in Euro 08 and to be honest, it was hardly against quality opposition.
There it no doubting the dutch capabilites going forward, but everyone knows that the are extrememely weak at the back. Boulahrouz and ooijer are two players who at best are mid table premiership players who are weak links even in those teams.
Sweden? Well they are as old as my granny and possibly not as good at football as her.
I honestly believe that this guy will do ok wherever he goes, but will he set the world alight? I doubt it. At Barce he will be outshone by their similar player Bojan and also Henry. Remember this guy is 27, players like him and similar late bloomers like Luca Toni should always be held with a degree of caution. Why appear now? Why was he not good enough 5 years ago? A diamond needing polishing? I doubt this, therefore I seriously doubt his pedigree over time.

Pavleychenko (i know its spelt wrong) is perhaps a slightly more club suited player with his work rate and speed. He can finish and in the hustle bustle of the Premiership I definately think he would be a success up front for any team.

Arshavin? He'd do OK in la liga, but the premiership? I dont think so.

Arshavin is soooo overrated. It was so disgusting to hear all the hype about him after the holland game... People got on the lame bandwagon and couldn't stop spewing that a?? kissing verbal diarheaa about him. Its soo cool he flopped. Physically he is too weak and has too many quiet spells. After this game everybody should wake up - including any clubs foolish enough to want to pay anything for him...

it's funny, the people who were laughing because they thought people were celebrating Arshaving after two games (despite the fact that he was player of the year TWO years ago, are now on saying he's pants based on ONE poor performance.

Just goes to show - a few good games dont make a great player - as a couple of bad games dont make a rubbish player.....Flavour of the moment gone sour - if you dont think players can have a great season and stop developing look at anelka...Barca is the wrong move for this player hes's left it too late trust me!

He had a quiet game, Russia were poor. Still a fantastic player though and very welcome alongside Messi & co.

Do you know why he didn't start the first two games? Well because he was banned. Do you know why he was banned? I guess it is you who's got to do some research...

Well Russians brought everything they had into game against Holland and won. They run like space rockets for 90 minutes plus extra time - playing like that is a real hell and did not seen such performance in years. No wonder that in the next game against Spain they had no steam. Just physical and emotional fatigue, that's all. BTW they didn't originally plan to go so far in the tournament and Hiddink himself said that it's miracle how his team plays. So it's understandable why they were poor against Spain in semi final.. That game with Holland is true masterpiece, and Arshavin is worthy player.
