comment on the article

The FIA has just announced the (provisional) calendar for 2009:
29 March Australia
5 April Malaysia
19 April Bahrain
10 May Spain
24 May Monaco
7 June Canada
21 June Great Britain
28 June France
12 July Germany
26 July Hungary
9 August Turkey
23 August Europe (Valencia)
6 September Italy
13 September Belgium
27 September Singapore
11 October Japan
18 October China
1 November Brazil
15 November Abu Dhabi

Of particular note is the move of the British GP to a June date, Turkey back to its August date and the introduction of the Abu Dhabi GP.

Apologies to all that this article does not discuss Lewis Hamilton, loose exhausts, or FIA bias.....

"hey its great being an f1 fan more races more fun "

But are you a motorsport fan?

I know there's no US GP. NASCAR wouldn't allow Mickey Mouse or Ecclestone (not sure if there's a difference) anywhere near their excellent series.
There's only one circuit for a US GP - Watkins Glen.

Some times i just don't understand how the F.I.A think {or should i say never understand }They are always banging on about bringing out new rules to lower the costs of racing, now they are adding more races to the calender.Surly this is going to put more strain on the smaller teams budget.Just don't make sense to me.

Anyone think the Spanish GP should be changed to some other spanish/ european track?

The last couple of years this circuit has produced 2 of the dullest races to my memory.

With the Euro Gp being held in Valencia, Spain already have 1 race on the calender. Just to keep em happy use a different track in spain Jerez maybe? Or class the Valenica circuit as the Spanish GP.

I'm all for the classic europen circuits (silverstone, monza, spa, monaco, etc) but Barcelona First used in 1991) doesn't fit the same bill.

Bring back San Marino!

Just a thought

Well, most of the teams have said they'd support a season of 20 races, maximum, so how about a Moscow Grand Prix?

...you could slot it in between the German and Hungarian races and shuffle all the others forward a couple of weeks, so that you end up having the Abu Dhabi race in December.

Feel free to point out what an idiot I am winkeye

I would like to raise 2 points one is why does spain get 2 races. It is purely down to the Alonso factor. As has been seen in Germany once a driver has been around for a few years or is not doing as well it is hard for one country to keep 2 races going.

The second point is regarding with the new Formula 2 series to start next year. What is the point of it?

We already have GP2 which runs on the Grand Prix undercard and A1GP which has just announced a tye up with Ferrari.

Where will Formula 2 sit in with both of these and where will it run? Is it going to also be on the undercard at grand prix weekends? which i thought would be a bit mad.

The cost also appears very cheap at 200,000 euro's per season.

I take it that the series will be a single make series so to get a team to agree to build the cars and an engine supplier to provide engines all in time for tests to start this winter must be tought.

the Spanish Grand Prix is a joke, read that in the last one (2008), aside from the first lap, there was only one overtaking manoeuvre in the whole race. Spain now has two GPs with Valencia being added to the calendar so why not make Valencia the Spanish Grand Prix and if Bernie is so adamant on using the Nurburgring, make that the European Grand Prix, and let the German Grand Prix take place at Hockenheim.

other tracks that should be taken of the calendar - Magny Cours, Hungaroring. if the FIA want to increase overtaking, the first step is removing the modern tracks where none of it happens.

also, anybody know why Tilke completely ruined the Hockenheimring? used to be one of my favourite tracks

To have exciting races we either need to have exciting treacks eg monaco, or overtaking tracks like hockenheim was the other day. Mangy Cours, Hungaoring, Barcelona and Canada should go.

Great, another street cicuit with 500 corners and nowhere to overtake.
Better sort out the lollipops cuz it's all gonna happen in the pits.
