Can Ochoa break her US Open duck?

comment on the article

Mexico's Lorena Ochoa is gunning for her first US Women's Open title at the Interlachen Country Club in Minnesota this week.

The world number one came close to winning last year at Pine Needles but faded over the closing five holes.

She was also in contention in 2005 at Cherry Hills before the pressure got to her and she found the water at the last to take a eight.

Despite the recent deaths of two family members, including her maternal grandfather, she insists she is ready to challenge for the title.

How do you think the tournament will pan out?

I hope she can win.

At the moment, she seems to be dominating women's golf to an extent that even Tiger can't manage in the men's game. I think it would be a shame if she didn't win at least one Grand Slam.

Strange how many great players always had one event that they didn't win, despite dominating golf at their peaks - like Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson never won the USPGA.

There are also British entries, Major Championship winners amongst them. Hope the follow-up articles will focus on them.

Why the attention on Wie? Am thinking Stanford will soon tire of her (and her parents') act.

Ochoa is a credit to her sport, good luck to her.

Laura Davies is leading at Interlachen at -3 after 9 holes. Matthew -2 after 10, Ochoa +2 after ten.

Ms Wie plus one after 7.

Laura and Catriona still playing well, Wie plus 7 after 11. No surprise there.

Ochoa in at even par 73, five shots back but a good recovery as she had it at plus 3 at one time.

Laura and Catriona still minus 3 with a coupla holes remaining.

Wie now plus 8.
