Hello everyone

It's another beautiful day at Wimbledon and a cracking line-up too. Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick are all in action later, and opening play on Centre Court: defending champion Venus Williams against Brit wildcard Naomi Cavaday.

You can follow all the action here:

Unfortunately some twit decided to have fun with the interactive TV screens and added moving grey buttons on the top. Far from being helpful these are annoying and distract from the movement of play on screen as they are constantly within peripheral vision. Obviously someone being too clever by half and seduced by available technology.

Becker - does he happen to have a Russian mother and German father, the latter fairly well known in these circles? Surely not...so who is he? We are entitled to know, aren't we? winkeye~

No, it can't be him - that cupboard incident didn't happen long enough ago for any of Boris' offspring to upset the apple cart (or strawberry punnets?)again at Wimbledon...the thought of it is rather appealing, though! Nice to see Boris the other day on telly, being seriously flirted at by the blonde bombshell from "Q of Sport" - didn't she win Roland Garros in her time, once? Sue Barker, yeah that's her name. Good on yer, girl, You and Boris should be able to create a Wimbledon winner. Now, would he/she be British or German? Intriguing thought...

At least The Sun had the bottle to admit they were wrong. Builders, plumbers et al. will now be cheering Sharapova all the way to the final, just so they can see some more!

I would much rather watch the Eaton match, such a better match for him tobe arond 500 seeds below him was unbelivable, shame the beeb where two busy chatting about Murarry, (scottish w****r)and not on the englishmen in the competition doing a better job and more entertaining.
On another note great effort from Rafa

I am from India and have been watching Tennis, since Becker won the Wimbledon, for the first time, in 1985 (as a wild card entry and eventually becoming the youngest ever to win Wimbledon, at 17 years 10 months). I was 10 then.

I have written so many posts in here and have even predicted several results, correctly.

I am a great fan of Roger and would proudly say that he is only Player, I have ever seen, who could play every shot, that’s in the book and the greatest that the Tennis world, has ever seen, in the last few decades. I do watch Rafa playing. What impresses me is his physical and mental strength, at this age of 22. He is going to be around for another 3 to 4 years and would also end of winning 10+ grand slams (6+ French open crowns, 2+Wimbledon crowns and 1 Australian Open crown, at least).

To be honest, Federer is no more the Federer that we have been seeing for the past 4 years (2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). He is now falling down from prime and might end up winning 1 or 2 grand slams, at the most, in the coming year. We would not see Federer playing in 2010 and I also don’t seen him breaking the Sampras record of 15 Grand slams. He could only equal the record.

Rafa’s only weakness was his Serve, which is more or less equal to Federer, right now. Federer won the 2007 edition of Wimbledon, mostly because of his serve and all those who watched that game should agree that Rafa matched Federer in every other department. In fact, Rafa looked physically and mentally tougher and stronger than Federer. Luck and fortune favored the brave, in the end.

This year, the scenario is very different. I don’t think Djoko would reach Semi’s. There is an upset waiting for him in the cards. It’s going to be Rafa and Federer final again, which Rafa is going to win, in 4 sets.

Unless something happens to Rafa, I don’t think anybody is going to stop him from winning this year’s Wimbledon and would eventually be crowned World No. 1, by the end of this year.

I am sure Rafa is going to win; any bets?

Shankarg...

Pete has one 14 grand slams in all and not 15...
u seem to predict a Rafa, Fed final with Rafa winning! interesting coz Rafa winning wimbledon means a huge body blow for Fed!
why do u say Fed might not play in 2010!hw would be only 28 then! thats another interesting comment from u!

Hi ChinaManCed,

I was wrong in saying 15 Grand slams. It was a Typo. Sorry about that. If you had watched on how Nadal played at Queens club and how Federer played at Halle; you would then understand what I mean. Federer’s serve has become very vulnerable and so is his backhand, this year. Meanwhile, Nadal has improved his serve, backhand slices (very important in grass) and his overall fitness. This says why I pick Nadal as my favorite to win Wimbledon, this year (even though I love Roger to claim the title).

I would want Roger to break Sampras’s record, as well, as I believe Fedex is better than the so called Pistol Pete (whose whole game depended on the serve and forehand). Fedex is a complete player the game has ever seen. Agassi who had been playing for 2 decades (which included players like Becker, Edberg, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, etc), rightly said that Federer was the best player, he had ever played. Agassi has played Federer in US Open and Australian Open on 4 occasions and 11 times, overall (with 3-8 record over Fedex). Agassi has faced Sampras 34 times, in his career (with a 14-20 record), including Wimbledon on 2 occasions and French Open once (8 times in Grand slams and in 5 grand slam finals). So, what he meant is absolutely true.

Anyway, take it from me; you would see Federer losing to too many more players than it has been in the past few years, where he just lost to 3 or 4 players. His fitness levels are highly questionable in a 5 set match. He has lost his stride and movement within the baseline.

On the whole, do not be surprised or shocked if Nadal wins Wimby.

Wow. WHAT A DAY at wimby.
Awesome stuff.

Would just like to put forth some views of mine.

To all the Fed doubters out there or haters. Any which way you want to put it. I have read many threads on the 606 website in the last week or so about fed and nadal and who is better and why and what not.

WELL let me just put it this way. Did anyone see Djoker lose today. This is a very pertinent question as people have been saying the fed express is on his way down and that the likes of djoker and nadal are going to beat him from now on. Djoker himself said that too.

The mark of a great champion is how he deals with adversity and how he they play the big points. Djoker was quite sure fed was on the way down and that he is nervous that there are so many great players out there now.
And why did he say this just because fed has been winning three GS'S per year for the last three years and just because he lost the aussie open final to djoker.
Let me put it this way. What happpened to the joker. Forget djoker. Joker is more like it. He spoke big just because he won one grand slam and was berating a man who has won 12. It aint that easy now is it evidenced by his thrashing by safin. Let him win 5 gs at least before he starts berating a guy of fed's caliber. It is not easy to play as consistent as fed does. You ARE bound to have some losses along the way. Even sampras referred to that recently in an interview. He said fed is still the best just going through abit of a bad patch right now.

Well lets examine fed's supposed bad patch. the guy actually makes two grand slams finals in a row one where he loses to a guy who played better on the day the joker and whilst suffering from mono along the way. Second final he lost to the best clay courter to have ever played the game . That is a sign of a person losing his way or ability? I think not!

Fed is still the most consistent player on all surfaces. He will win not 15 but 20 Gs's BEFORE he retires mark my words. He is def not on the way down. Evidenced by making two gs finals even this way whilst suffering from mono. Others would have taken 6 months of

Nadal is def the only player close to him but umtill he starts to winning more regularly on hard court he will never be considered fed;s league. His hard court game has to improve. He might win a wimbledon in the future in fact he def will but hard court i dont really know and his knees i doubt will hold up another 5 years with the amount of battering it receives with nadal's never say die attitude on the court and his supreme fitnesss. He tries to get every ball. Unfortunately his game will just ruin his knees. He definately will retire with about 9 to 10 grand slams always second best to roger thoug.

So for the roger haters out there or doubters I would request people judge fed with more realistic barometers of ability like the fact that he has already won 12 grand slams and in fact regularly makes the semis or the finals of gs he does not win. Dont hold it against him that he wins three grand slamsx a year and judge him by that. His form now is supreme if any body has watched his first round match or if they are watching his current match against soderling.

aS THEY say:

FORM IS TEMPORARY BUT CLASS IS PERMANENT.

cHEERS
