Leeds- What next for the season?

comment on the article

In my opinion last night was our pivotal game of the season, kind of our must win game.

We were beaten by a better side and failed to match them up front. Meaning our star players like Burrow and Webb were useless.

I personally think last night was the game that will give one team a lot of confidence and break the other teams completely.

I now feel Saints have the advantage going into the semi and as has been mentioned, they are the kings of the knock out competition. I also feel Leeds are likely to lose more games now and Saints are definately the form team of the late season, will they overtake us? 2pts is not a lot!!!

I hope McLennan can instill some more confidence and turn things around. Some squad decisions are ridiculous. We had players like Ryan Hall and Eric Anselme who have been great in the academy!!!!!

To me this year reminds me of 2005.... year after we won the Grand Final, got off to a blistering start till halfway, fell off the league leaders position and then lost the Challenge Cup Final to Hull (could happen?) and the Grand Final To Bulls.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Its ok. As soon as we went down to 12 i knew we wouldnt be able to hang on (not debating the sending off, its irrelevant) but Its hard to catch up against saints with 13! never mind 12

To be honest LSS, as daft as it sounds, going down to 12 hindered Sainst more IMO. Up until that point we had a game plan that was working perfectly and the team was playing solidly. As soon as we had the extra man we changed and started to try and score from every play taking unnecessary risks. If we had coninued with the game plan I believe the try scoring opportunities would have presented themselves and we would have scored more.

Probably so lol. I was shocked it was such a low scoring game given the conditions.

Saints executed an excellent game plan superbly.

It's a shame we didn't get the finale the game deserved because of a moment of stupidity by Scruton.

Sinfield and McGuire were excellent after poor performances last week. Webb & Burrow were merely good, which is a million miles from 'useless'.

Leeds worries? We're relying too much on the Senior/Donald combination and leaking yards badly via the other wing. Also, we've got to get Ellis back in the pack.

Was listening to radio leeds as I couldn't get to the match due to work. Maguire sounded like he was leeding the Leeds attack he just didn't have the numbers in support.

As for Saints being favourites for the semi, nice try are you sure your real names not Mclenan, he loves being an underdog.

I'd say the teams are even sure Leeds are still ahead in the league but if you look at the run in I'd say Leeds have a tougher draw we've still got Wigan twice which is 4 points in the bag were as Leeds have cas twice, need I say more. smiley

a few days ago i posted a comment saying i would choose maguire to get rid of if i had my way well last night he proved me wrong didnt he, he was sublime for moments of the game and really did outplay leon pryce. However how many times does lee smith have to mess up before mclennen realises he isnt sl quality he goes looking for the ball in defence and leaves that right hand side exposed. toopi is meant to be fit agian for next week and i here gibson isnt far off again either so we will be able to move ellis back into the pack and then have the jjb ellis second row which was so good early this year. are place in the top 6 is pretty much assured and while winning the league leades shiled is always nice its the run in at the end of year that counts so id rather hit poor form now and then at least it gives us time to pick ourselves up for a gf run in, regards to the cup game it is a cup game one match one day winner takes all league form doesnt come into it

I thought the team selections were interesting last night. I think Leeds thought they may have out muscled the Saints six, but Saints' pack really stood up to the challenge; James Graham was immense. Leeds don't need to get too worried, they started the season like a house on fire and you just can't keep up that kind of intensity for the whole year. They still have a couple of top players to come back into the side that will strengthen them, especially with Ellis moving back to the second row. Saints will also be bolstered with the return of their forwards so it makes for a tasty run in. It'll be interesting to see how the Dragons go tonight and if they can keep the pressure on.

Leo, stop shaking. Fans like you are a joke. You hope bluey can turn things around? Are you a complete idiot? We got beaten!!!! Not bleeding killed. Saints are hitting some great form, but look at them six weeks ago. We will finish top, and beat Saints in the semi. Got my tickets for Wembley, and I aint watching Saints.

if every team is to have a slump, then now is the "right time" for us. we weren't at our best in the cup game v wigan, or against hull but we won. we then lost narrowly in London to an ever improving side, and then we lost to a red hot saints side after playing the final 27 minutes with 12 men. we will bounce back on saturday and we'll hit our straps going into the semi.

saints are due a defeat. as everyone kept telling us, we will not win every game. saints will slip up very soon. that could be this weekend with 7 players on international duty as well as fozzard, cayless and flannery injured.

i still think we'll top SL.
