The End for the once great blues

Euro 2008 France
comment on the article

Well after tonight defeat to Italy 2-0 i have to say this is the end for what was a great nation team in euro and the world they are no longer a big european or world team because over the 3 games in this tournament they have been very poor and disapointing they are the biggest flops to go out of all the teams that's already gone out of euro 2008.

I know they had a tough group but from the start they were my 3rd favourites to win euro 08 i thought them and Italy would qualify 1st and 2nd with Holland in 3rd, Romania 4th but its turned into one big nightmare from the start to finish and i think the coach and the players should be ashamed of themselves and the coach should now go and some of the players should retire.

Who should france next get as coach and can he take them forward towards the World Cup in 2010 whoever they can will have a very hard task on his hands to get the squad mentally ready for that WC in South Africa will the blues ever be the same again at the moment i say don't think so even Brazil are not the same team and finding it hard in they group to even qualify.

i'm 40 years old and i've followed football since i was a child so i know how good Platini was ,believe me.
BUT Zidane was just something else.
Zidane was a player you would see perhas only once in 50 years, let alone in a generation.
For example,i'm not sure we have ever seen a player as good with both feets as Zidane.

itachi22,
we're sure you are not English ("feets"), you are not French ("Zidane better than Platini"), you are not Italian (we remember very well how great Platini was) you must be Spanish or North-African.
In any case, this wow factor you chat about simply doesn't count in football. The greatest players made simple things for their teams, not tricks. Many simple things per game, many games per year, many years in their career.
When I was a child I used to follow the space launches on TV, but I don't pretend to be a rocket engineer.

"The greatest players made simple things for their teams, not tricks. "

Yeah i guess that for example, everything Maradona used to do were really simple things.....

"you are not French ("Zidane better than Platini"), "

Well, following your reasoning ,i'm not sure there are a lot of french remaining in this world then!
Listen, technically,Zidanewas light years ahead Platini: he could do things with the balls that Platini would never be able to do AND that were very useful to his teams.
Only some hardcore Juventus fans and some old guys who think everythink was better before would dare saying that Platini was a better player than Zidane.

itachi22 you are not French, true ? So don't speak in the name of the others.
The way you keep on underlining the things of Zidane was able to do shows everybody you deeply misunderstand football. Platini and Beckembauer were stronger than Zidane. Zidane, Cassano, Figo, Zola, Robinho, Gascoigne are top players for the TV highlights. Not for a season made by sixty games of 90 minutes.

I'm french and almost all my friends who like football think that Zidane was better than Platini.

Ok, I buy your opinion poll, but this way my theory is supported by facts.

You French don't win so much in football, simply because you don't understand it.

Can I ask you where did you be born ? Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lille... or Marseille ?

What an arrogant statement!

No, what a simple truth.

Here in Italy we think Platini has been much greater than Zidane.

Brazil are not the same team anymore?? If you bothered to look at the team which they put out for the last world cup qualifiers you would see that they are fielding their second team!! Every four years its the same old story 'Brazil arent as good as they used to be' Just think about their first 20 players in Europe. Brazil intentionally play all these guys in the qualifiers so they can get permits to play in europe...
