Wimbledon Contenders

Before i discuss Wimbledon i just want to ask Tennis fans why does Roger Federer never play at Queens?

Wimbledon is shaping up to be quite a tournament this year; maybe the best ever. I think there are 5 contenders, 3 outstanding contenders and 2 who have an outside chance.

1. ROGER FEDERER

Roger has had a disappointing season by his exceptional standards. I don't think anyone expected him to lose at the Aussie Open, and to then get blown away at the French by a man who has no fear of the Fed Express leaves him vulnerable. I think Nadal is like a fly that Federe just can't seem to get rid of. However, i think Roger being on his favoured surface will be the man to beat. His record at Wimbledon is magnificent, he is aiming for 6 in a row, and if he brings his A game to Wimbledon he will win. Simple.

2. RAFAEL NADAL

His performance at Queens was outstanding and proved to me that this man can win Wimbledon this year. He is resillient, mentally and physically strong, and never gives away cheap points. He is on a high after winning the French and then Queens, and does not fear Federer, could be his year.

3. NOVAK DJOKOVIC

Been so impressed with the Australian Open champion this year, is a real contender for the title. Was unlucky yesterday, felt he could have one but for a couple of missed oppertunities but has the game to win at Wimbledon. Has already beaten Federer in a major final gives him a great chance.

4. ANDY RODDICK

A runner up on more than one occasion, has stated he wants to win Wimbledon more than any other tournament. Always seems to play well at Wimbledon until he meets Roger, but will be there or there abouts at the latter end. Outside Chance.

5. ANDY MURRAY

He has a sore thumb, and the hopes of the nation on his shoulders. Missed out through injury last year, i think it will be tough for Andy this year, but with centre court edging him on every point he has a slight chance.

My Prediction: Roger to make it 6 in a row.

I know Federer was well and truly beat in the French Open but I do not think it will affect him as much as many say. Roland garros is Nadal's domian and Roger was not expecting to win himself but Wimbeldon is another matter. It is his domian and you can guarantee he is going to bring his best game to the court and not hand over the title without a fight. I think it will be close again but Fed is going to win. Also Nadal is good on grass as proven at Queens but Novak was alot closer to winning there than he was on the clay courts proving he is not as good on grass, so I think it is going a bit far for to say he is the fav and defo going to win. It wouldnt overly suprise me to see Novak beat Nadal if they meet. Any opinions?

Anthony

I am a huge Rafa fan but I would not want to put my money on anyone in this years Wimbledon. I for one am not prepared to write RF off .. he has much to prove yes.. but he will fight for the 6th title thats for sure. As for Djoko.. well.. do I deny that he is in with more that a chance.? No. But if he can play half as well as he can talk then Wimbledon is already won winkeye

But remember there are some dark horses in the race.. I remember the young qualifier who was only 17 yrs old who came through and won Wimbledon.. i.e. Boris Becker. Its wide open, who knows ?? I think we are in for a very "interesting" and nail-biting Wimbledon.

I know Fed and Nadal are the favourites, but do not forget about ivo karlovic. With his pace and fluid movement his is most definitely a tournament dangerman. My only worry is his lack of height which could limit him in executing smashes, his serve is also extremely fallable. Arvind Palmer may also be a dark horse this year...

aaron95 I think is PERFECT that the Joker is on the same draw aS fed. I mean last SW19 Nadal played him, same during the last 2 FO. So far Fed had it easy. II would love to see Fed play Joko in the semi and see how tire he will be next day to play nadal. In fact, I think that Joko would win over Fed. But if all of them make it to the finals I would think that Nadal would be the one less tire.

You sassenachs should be grateful for Murray representing the UK.

If it wasn't for him, the only thing you'd have to look forward to in week two is your pims.

I agree with Aaron95, why is the number 1 seed in the same side of the draw as the number 3? If you've earned the right to be the top seed, you get the number four seed, the obviously weaker Davydenko. Poor form LTA, you should know better!!

Oh, and Fed to win against Nadal in 4
