Live - US Open day two

comment on the article

When Padraig Harrington won the Open last year, I must confess I allowed myself a touch of optimism that a whole host of Europeans would triumph in the majors with the ‘duck’ of recent years broken.

Well, we’re only into the second day at the US Open and already it appears my optimism was not greatly placed.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/gol...

What is it about our European stars that they struggle to reproduce their best form in the majors when the top US, Australian, South African etc golfers do it time and again?

I’m probably being harsh – and hopefully premature. For instance, Lee Westwood, Robert Karlsson, Luke Donald and Carl Pettersson (among a few, limited, others) were not far off at the start of day two.

But what are the chances of a European topping the leaderboard come the end of day four do we think?

And if our stars continue to struggle – Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose and Paul Casey are already well behind the leading pack - what might that mean for our chances at Valhalla in this Ryder Cup year?

Elsewhere, Tiger Woods may not have had the explosive first round some were hoping for following his recent spell out through injury, but the world number one looks handily placed nonetheless.

Any of you betting against the Tiger ‘roaring’ (sorry) to success again this major? Who might his biggest challengers be? And how might the ‘curse’ of Friday the 13th manifest itself at Torrey Pines?!

Let us know your thoughts.

So, Mickelson has 5 wedges? What lofts does he carry?

48 - Reg PW
52 - Gap W
56 - SW
60 - LW
64 - ???

I'm just guessing that'd be the lofts he has.

Anyone know?

Poulter was a disgrace at the US Open, I watched him on the 12th hole par 4. After a drive that landed in the right hand side rough I was 10 feet from him as he wiffed the ball, then he jammed it forward 15 feet at which he slammed the wedge in the ground, flipped it and the crowd off and walked away. After a few minutes his caddie who refused to pull out the wedge from the ground walked on and "Cry Baby" Polter came back to get his club. Hen then hit another poor shot into the rough. Three shots later he walked off with a seven.
Casey and Donald were perfert sportsman, I only hope Faldo was watching Poulter, he would not be welcomed on my Ryder Cup team.
Not that i think Poulter will make it on merit or as A Captains pick
