So Mr Stanford and the ECB put their heads together and all of a sudden the BCCI are not the only ones who can offer some serious dosh to its players.

Do you think it will be a success?, will you watch?

Rugbyslayer,

I think you have still no understood the math i did in my previous post.

There is a Franchise cost which each Franchise owner will incur once every 10 years. That amount is put in for the calculation of profits/losses this year.
----------------

Is there a tax fiddle going on?

Basic accounting would depreciate a fixed cost over it's lifetime.

So the P & L should just show 1/10th of the franchise cost if it's a 10-year lease.

Does that include the cost of the players? Or will they re-bid for new wages next year?

Reverend_Weasel,

Yes the numbers should have shown 1/10th of the franchise cost. The only reason I see for them to have included the franchise cost is because the money for the whole 10 years have been paid before hand, that is the whole money has gone out of the franchise owners pocket in the first year itself and thus becomes a part of expenses incurred by the franchise.

There will be no rebidding on new wages next year as the players are under contract for 3 years.

Not to throw two oranges and a few apples together, but I read that "Barcley/F.A. premiers" have a 5 year wait list for sonsors to get on and share that pot. For the "Aussie Rules", Quantas competes with Milo, Coke and others to gain 2-3 years advance rights to only finance the league costs in advance.

Many Indian fans were making fun of the KFC sponsorship for their Oz domestic 20/20 cup. But, I gotta tell ya, they were no chicken when it came to dolling out cash and did a superb job in holding that tournament.

The IPL will still be bigger than this joke league set up by the ecb.
the ecb and England lack character and crowd atmosphere when it comes to cricket matches so however much money stanford throws at the ECB the stanford joke league will never be popular and have that class appeal like the IPL.

and Rugby, dont even try and compare your silly KFC league to any of the two competitions. Your domestic circuit is a joke and something that people make fun of.

This whole stanford thing wont get very far as English cricketer's carry very little marketability beyond England so this whole stanford league is a nonstarter to begin with.
stanford should have had teams from India, Sri Lanka and South Africa and than it might have been a success.

and Rugby,
The BCCI gets along very well with the other cricket boards, except for your two darlings, that is the English board and the aussie board. The BCCI has very good relations with the Sri Lankan Board, the Pakistan Board, Bangladeshi board, SA, WI,ZI and so on. Unlike the ecb and ca which is hated by almost every cricket board.

I would urge all patriotic Indians and followers and fans of the IPL to boycott this league and not watch it.

It is not because we think it might affect the IPL as the IPL will be here long after stanford is dead and buried but because the bbc and other ecb accredited news portals refused to broadcast IPL games.

Unlike some people mentioned here, I will be praying for this league to fail, not because of any threat to the IPL but because I dont think the idea of 20/20 in England is good. England should stick to test cricket. After all, that is the pure game involving crumpets and tea.

Where are all the 20/20 haters now? all the talk about techniques, too much money, too much control with BCCI, all the whinning.......really did not take long for some of these guys to accept 20/20 now. biggrin
