Live - Euro 2008 day four

comment on the article

Dunno about you, but it felt a bit like Boxing Day when I woke up this morning.

It really was the day after the night before - and what a night. Having bubbled under for the first five games, Euro 2008 came to life in spectacular fashion with the Netherlands and Italy putting on a stunning show in Berne.

Today, the final four teams competing in Austria and Switzerland make their tournament bows. Introducing Spain, Russia, Greece and Sweden.

Let the entertainment begin...

At last Spain deliver a performance worthy of their collective abilities. However, we've been here before - remember in 1986 when Butragueño savaged the impressive Danes, only to go out meekly on pens to Belgium in the quarters. I think we need to see them against Germany, Portugal or Holland before we can assess their chances here. As for Russia, they really were pathetic, just like they were against England at Wembley in the qualifiers. What is Pat Nevin on? In his article, he says: "they did not beat England in a Euro 2008 qualifier in October 2007 because England were poor, they beat England because Russia are a very good side." I can't believe that he saw either that game or the one at Wembley.

So who reckons Manyoo would be better off selling Ronaldo, and buying Villa and Podolski and shelling out the remaining loose change on a winger...Bentley, Wright-Phillips?

Ibra has a massive point to prove to the world.

He had a fantastic season with Inter.

Tho his season did go downhill after the Liverpool game in the Champions League and has injury concerns on his knee.

Last game for Inter - he came on as a sub and scored 2 brilliant and vital goals to help Inter win their 16th Scudetto.

If Ibra can maintain his good form of late and keep himself injury-free and get good support from H.Larsson and Freddie - he will come good.

He can produce a moment of brilliance out of nothing.

I know he wants to get Torres back - its a chance for him to perform vs Spain and show the World why he shud be a World Player contender.

His goal last night will give him some confidence - He is a golden player for Sweden.

If Ibra performs, Sweden will too.

Sweden all the way for me.

The Spain game was entertaining but probably because Russia were dire, it just goes to show how poor England were/are to lose to that. It will be interesting to see how Spain do later in the tournement.

As for the Sweden - Greece game, I'd rather watch paint dry. The goal from Ibra was pure class but that was it, 2 seconds out of 90 mins. neither of those teams are going anywhere.

Slightly biased as I live in the Netherlands but the best game so far was Holland - Italia, ironic as none of my friends or indeed myself expected that from the Dutch. Both of these teams will probably go further.

Although we have had some poor games I am sure the tournement will now start improving, I for one haven't missed a game and plan on not doing so.

Shame we are not there but then again we didn't deserve to be. At least I am not sitting biting my nails waiting for the next England failure.

Enjoyable tournement I think.

Lol, no Wright Phillips for me. As for Villa, Tevez is very similar to him, and Podolski, well, I don't know, just don't think he'll wanna leave right now. He's proving his point now, after being made to sit out so much last season.
I'd prefer Santa Cruz and Wesley Sneijder :P

I have been watching the Croatia v Portugal game......what a bunch of girls there are playing the modern game today. This doesn't apply just to this match, after minimal or even no contact, they roll over and over clutching their eye, head, shoulder, leg, alice band or handbag. You never saw Dave Mackay or Tommy Smith do that!!!!
