Will some tennis fans advise me whether Murray will ever be great. i.e. win a major? I'm no expert but I'm keen to extend my knowledge beyond football and golf. Has he been unlucky in the dominating era of Fed, Raf, and D......ic ?! Or is it up to him to bridge the gap? If so, can he or is he destined to be another Henman? Thoughts.....

Oi! He's a year younger than Rafa! (Well about 11 months).

And he's never beaten Fed in a final, it's always been early - 3rd round Cincinnati, 2nd round Dubai (I think!).

He will, and if he hasn't it's not because of bad luck, it's down to his own mentality. Technically he has it all, but often he seems happy having won a couple of matches in a Grand Slam, or having beaten Federer. He'll get a bit more hungry I hope.

Also it seems that Federer is fading, fair enough, and that the hard court GSs are going to be more open in the next couple of years. As for Wimbledon, well, that probably too but Fed is still THE favourite for that one.

I don't think he will ever reach the heights of a Nadal, Federer or even a Djokovic but he does have the game to make the top 5 and he will alway be a contender for a slam title.

He has ability and no fear of playing the big guns! Youth is on his side and personally I think we will see him win a Grand Slam. Certainly I could not imagine him choking with the opponent at his mercy as "Tiger?" Tim did on countless occasions.
Once Murray reaches the level of technical ability and consistency required I am sure he will be one of the best players in the world!

He has all the pieces, its just fitting them together that he needs to do now and sharpening them up slightly.
He has to find the right balance between attack and deffence.
I think his game is slowly getting there and there have been improvements on clay from previous years.

Although he won two tournements at the start of the year he did not play his best tennis in these events IMO and it was his mental strength that won him those titles.

The gap between the big three and the rest has increased and he still has to get back in the top tennever mind the top 3.

He has a good chance of going up to 9th in the world if he has a good week.

But to even get to 4th in the world he has to double his points tally!!

But he has the scope to gain a lot of points over the next three months so we will have to wait and see.

On the slam question only time will tell.

Murray is a very talented player I think - he has toughness and determination - like Henman did (bless him) but he's better in that he has more shots and improvisation is very like John McEnroe at times.Yes he will win a major at some stage - probably Wimbledon. I think grass is his best surface - he's grown on it.I saw him at Wimbledon 2 years ago and he was VERY IMPRESSIVE. He needs to avoid injuries!

I think he has the ability to make it into the top 5 without a doubt, and as rightly said, his name will be mentioned in future slams.

Nevermind Nadal, who is a fantastic player. Djokovic is getting better and better. I can see him being more a threat. I have not forgotten about Federer, he is still a world class player. I am a huge fan of Federer he is majestic, just less so this year. And of course that reality which is age.

I can see Nadal and Djokovic for the world NO.1 after Federer has relinquished it. There are also a few good players coming through, like Tsonga. Hopefully Murray escapes any serious injuries. One thing for sure is, even if he doesnt win win a slam, he is far more entertaining to watch then Henman ever was!
