Day 7
Nadal became the first person since Borg to win consecutive titles on clay then grass as he defeated Djokovic 7-6(6) 7-5. Both players were at their best in a battle that was just as much about mental toughness as it was about great shots. Djokovic flew out of the starting blocks (something we've seen him do against Rafa before) and had points for a 4-0 lead, but Rafa was able to hold him off long enough to find his forehand and break back to even the match at 3-3. Both players held serve and we reached a tie-break. In a very high quality 14 points Djokovic was up a mini-break three times but every time Rafa got it back and in the end after saving a set point he won it 8-6.

The next set was just as tough, this time Rafa broke first and went 2-0 up but just like the first set, the early leader was pegged back. They carried on holding serve until 4-4 when Novak put in a stella (excuse the pun) game to break Nadal to love and set himself up to win the second set. However Nadal broke back immediately and so we were all square again at 5-5. Rafa held and then built a 15-30 lead on Djoko's serve. 1 big serve brought him to 30-30 but then Rafa salvaged a match point and after a tense rally he drop shoted Novak, got the high ball he was looking for and put it away easily to win the set 7-5.

Day 7
Not to be outdone by Rafa, Federer also won a title this week (his second of the year) to extend his grass court win record to 59 matches, an extraordinary achievement. Although playing in a weaker field, Federer never dropped his serve this week and wasn't even extended to a tie-break. By all accounts (haven't managed to watch a match fro Halle) Federer looked calm and very comfortable on court this week but was never really threatened by anyone. In the final Federer was always leading and never looked like letting the home fans have a home champion. To his credit Kohlschreiber has had a great week, battling past Haas, crushing Soderling and Blake to reach the final but in the end he couldn't defeat the Grass Court King.

I think its very easy to see the outcome of this match as a strong indication of how things will pan out should they meet again at Wimbledon. Personally I don't think it would be that cut and dried. Whoever wins, I think the other would want to prove a point... winkeye

And Wimbledon is different, different atmosphere, much more pressure etc...and as big a difference between the grass of queens and Wimbledon as there is between the clay of Hamburg and Roland Garros...

The grass at Queens is much faster and lower bouncing than Wimbledon, so today is Djokovic's best chance to beat Rafa by a margin, it will be much closer at Wimbledon.

At the minute though Nadal is holding his own - Djoko seems stretched - can he keep his momentum? If he can Djoko i think will win in 2.

Very well played Nadal

Huge forehands in a rally at set point down. Djoko lies on the ground for a while contemplating life - Nadal checks hes ok and walks to the change of ends.

Nadal then takes it - Djoko looks like the corks popped out. Very high level tennis.

To say Djoko had points for 4-0, Nadals 8-6 tiebreak sends a big message.

Fantastic final, so pleased Rafa won. Congratulions to both players playing well from the clay on to the grass.
Winning today Rafa's confidence will be boosted no end, it was fab.
Looking forward now to Wimbledon, it would be interesting to have Djokovic in Roger's half of the draw what type of match it would be on the grass
