Steveo77 (U9884310) posted Jun 7, 2008 I was stood by the winning post this afteroon holding betting slips for New Approach and Tartan Bearer. As they came down the home straight I thought Tartan Bearer was going to power home. However the staying performance of New Approach was quite exceptional.

poppypauldan (U12245879) posted Jun 7, 2008 2 mins 36.50!!!!!!!!!! 4 seconds slower than Lamtarra. New Approach is one of the slowest Derby winners of recent times. There is nothing exceptional about this horse, please explain diabolical time( flat out)as for Authorised,he got exposed for what he really was, a sub standered, overrated horse, performances do not lie. New Approach, beaten in two guineas, his chance of greatness disappeared then along with his snail-paced winning Derby time.

togatoga01 (U12252088) posted Jun 8, 2008 New Approach is an expensive and genuine horse, K. Manning is a keen and has a lot of patience. Both deserve the right merit and level, by upgrade]the second to the top list of UK jockeys and the first to be sent to Godolphin stable.

rangeofwarwick (U10291490) posted Jun 8, 2008 It was a great day that started well with McCririck back on the "Morning Line" on Channel 4. Excellent coverage and camera work by the BBC as usual. I had £5 on the winner too. The best 1.5 mile horses I've ever seen are Old Vic, St.Jovite, Dancing Brave, Peintre Celebre (best of all), Helissio, Sinndar, Sakhee, Galileo, High Chapperal, Lamtarra, Generous, and Monjure. We'll have to wait until the end of the season to see if New Approach can join this elite group.

theduskywarbler (U12252401) posted Jun 8, 2008 For some reason the Americans place alot of emphasis on times and furlong/split times in their horseraces.I've never understood this atall. The only time I could see this as being relevant, is if the race was run as a sprint, indoors and on some type of all weather track.Yesterdays Derby time matters not a hoot. When New Approach takes on (and in my opinion beats)the older horses later in the year, then he will go into the future computer generated horseraces as a genuine contender to beat the likes of Dancing Brave, Montjeu,Mill Reef etc....
