With Kluft and Ennis out of this year's heptathlon in Beijing, who do you think the favourite,or winner, would be for heptathlon gold?

If Kelly can get the javelin right - and get back to full health between now and the games - she has got to be in with a really good shout of gold. But the javelin issue is a big one. If she can't nail it, we've got to be looking at yet another silver or bronze for her. Let's hope she can sort it out - she deserves a big triumph...

Unfortunately it seems that Kelly Sotherton has a lot to surmount : Javelin/General Health/and Blonska (who should have been banned) if in top shape by August then Gold is possibility, otherwise, in my opinion, she may only just get Bronze. Yes, the JT may just prevent even that achievement.
There is a possible solution re the Javelin..one that she's not explored but still has time...I believe her Dad knows what may just help !

Sotherton this year - Javelin is all mind games, she will pull out a PB at the games and then Ennis to win in 2012!

I believe that Miss Sotherton can and will win Gold at the Olympics. Even her most ardent fan would admit that she will not break any records in the Javelin. Though I do believe that she will do well enough and combined with a dominance in the 800 metres and strong performances in the Long and High jumps, she will get that elusive Gold medal.

As you all know, the Heptathlon and similar multi-event sports are not about winning every event. It is about having a consistently high finish. Especially if no other person wins more than two events.

Perhaps I didn't clarify last comment but you do need to break the comment down .
I said "if in top shape" "otherwise(if not in good shape) she'll get Bronze.Think...IF NOT IN GOOD SHAPE TO GET BRONZE ! That's some terrific athlete !!!
Also ,the comment by BESSArtemis made regarding
consistent high finish & no other person wins more than two events is so true.
The "INSURANCE" is to get more than you may need,
therefore improving on the JT to let's say 43m,
would have Kelly trounce Blonska !(Even if Kelly was not in best form !)
My attitude is as a real hard master & a person needs to use every ethical approach available...she HAS lost an event before due to a poor performance with JT, and remember, this MAY be Kelly's last chance in the Olympics so one needs to improve each discipline to one's maximum ability.
To win with superior scoring in ALL events is far more satisfying, don't you think ?

Who will win? Not Kelly Sotherton. She still hasn't embraced her weakness of the javlin and more than likely thinks she won't need to if Kluft isn't there. She will never get the big prize because the whole world knows the CHINK in her armour!

this is a joke event - summed up by Sotherton, who can't even throw a javelin properly - embarrassing. give anyone 4 years or whatever she's had at it, and I bet millions could throw it further - it's a joke.

it seems that non of us know what Chinese surprises there are.I doubt that there'll be one to beat Kelly, however, I do believe, knowing the Chinese as I do, that they are capable of producing a big surprise.
That clincher for them may well be a rather tall Javelin thrower ! (An unexpected tall Chinese ! ? )
Kelly still has the "edge" but she'll need EVERY POINT SHE CAN GET, even an extra 3m on the JT may be crucial.(over her PB )
Kelly is capable of doing so much better in JT but she appears to be downplaying the importance. Perhaps we're in for a pleasant surprise on the JT ...........?
