Hats Off Baddeley & Lancashire

British athletics
comment on the article

Fantastic wins for Andy Baddeley & Tom Lancashire in the Bislett Games last night. Well done lads. I have been critical of UK mens distance running but these 2 victories & PBs gave me a lot of pleasure. Earlier in the year on this board I tipped Lancashire to make a major breakthrough & gain Olympic selection so I am feeling quite smug today. Well coached by Norman Poole, Lancashire has benefited from an 'old school' british cross country season. Fingers crossed that by the time of Beijing, Britain have a distance squad of Rimmer & Ellis at 800m, Baddeley, Lancashire plus either East or McCormick at 1500m and Farah, Thompson & possibly Scott Overall over the 5000m. A good chance of a finalist at each distance & the outside chance of medals for Farah & Baddeley? Its not impossible.

Baddeley's is an extremely good performance. That's worth about a 3.32.6 1500 or something. Lancashire maybe has a small distance to go before he can really challenge on the international scene but he's an extremely tough racer and I wouldn't put it past him to improve by another couple of seconds this year.

yeah great performances by both of them, all the better for actually winning the races rather than just being pulled round to a fast time.

i like baddeley, and think he could go on to run close to 3.30 this year and maybe challenge for a medal.

According to the IAAF website Baddeley came through 1500m in 3:34.36, he timed his run to perfection.

really happy for Lancashire as well as tat was a great run, lets hope this is just the begining!

It's good that they both won on the strength of their sprint finish as that will come in very handily in the Olympics (assuming they both get there)

In fairness, Baddeley's sprint finish looked better because a lot of guys were dying due to the fact the early pace was suicidal. He was pretty clever and sat off it a bit.

Baddeley's finish looked good because it was fantastic! Check out whichever race of his you want, djlovesyou, there's hardly a better finisher in a race than Andy!
