New Zealand v Ireland.. It's almost upon us

International New Zealand
comment on the article

Bloody hell am I excited. What is it about Test matches that have me beside myself with excitment in the days leading up to it?

As for this test, it's shapping to be a cracker. Ireland last time they were in NZ played extremely well and pushed the AB's all the way. This time, they bring with them Europe's finest in the form of Munsters pack, against an AB tight 5 missing Heyman, Oliver, Woodcock and Jack. With bad bad weather expected in Wellington, this will no doubt be where Ireland fancy themselves the most. With ROG playing for postion to and Ireland attacking the AB front 5, whoever reigns supreme is this battle will go along way to winning the game.

The AB's back row, with McCaw, So'oialo and the inexperienced Kaino should be up to the job. That I have no doubt, and the faster paced game played in the S14 should see these guys able to really attack the breakdown at pace throughout the entire 80 min. With Thomson on the bench looking to make his AB debut he could really excite if he's got it switched on in the head. But heaven forbid McCaw goes off early, then the back row all of a sudden looks very inexperienced and possible fragile. Expect Ireland pack to try work over McCaw big time.

And as for the backs... well well. We all know the Battles in the centres will be electric. I can't wait to see how BOD gets on, if he will marshal the defence to contain Nonu and Smith and use his undoubted skill to create the openings.. Or will Carter be able to unleash a devistating Nonu with Smith feeding the AB's dangerous back three??

Not long to go now fellas... Time for your final thoughts on key match ups and predictions.

GAME ON!!

Ireland have just pressed the self-destruct button here, im gutted for Irish fans, i really am.

But you can all take heart from the first half performance and to still be competitive with New Zealand with 50 minutes gone and 3 points difference. Congratulations Ireland

I know where Reddan was coming from when he said playing strongly isn't enough, winning is what counts, but I for one am delighted to see us playing a bit of rugby for the first time in ages. Had some good chances had we taken them. I never really bothered with this years six nations as was so fed up with EOS and was still recovering from travelling out to Rome in 07 and seeing the cruellest ending to a 6 nations ever.

Well done Ireland so far (players maybe playing to impress Kidney or just because its the AB?). Finally I'mm getting excited about the team again.

I feel the only time Ireland looked dangerous was when they got the ball to the backs. They obviously didn't do this enough. Probably because of the conditions, but even so, they should have got the ball to O'Driscoll, I can't remember seeing him with the ball once.
Oh well.

Good game for Ireland, patchy from the AB's, but then again the weather was sh-t, and it was their first game for 8 months, so rustiness is to be expected.
They will need to play better next weekend, but I expect them to step up two or three more gears during the week

Go ALL BLACKS !

O'Driscoll got completely owned by Smith, once again supposedly world class Irishman is invisible, he lives off a 5 year old reputation.

Anyway onto the game, pretty good from both sides, NZ never looked like losing but atleast Ireland got a try and should have a good chance against the Wallabies next week.

Standout performers-McCaw, showing why he's the worlds best player,So'oailo played on despite a probable broken nose and constantly got over the gainline also the AB scrum. I laughed when Leamy said before the game that Ireland could control the set pieces, they were pasted.

Ireland Standouts-despite being largely on defense they only conceded two tries which most sides would be happy with. Kearney used his huge boot to good effect and ran effectively and Buckley carried well when he got on.

Decent game despite the atrocious conditions.

one nervous moment from kearney in his own try area but otherwise i think kearney had a really good game given the conditions.

eoin reddan wasn't quite as masterful as he had been in the earlier 6 nations, peter stringer wasn't bad as a sub, nice to know we still have 3 scrum halves (boss/o'leary depending on form and if o'leary gets enough exp)

irelands backs lost them that game although you can forgive a few mistakes at the class shown by the all blacks (in those particular moments) in that weather.

hopefully dan carter will continue to play that way giving england a chance to beat them

i really think australia are in a bit of trouble against ireland, if they play like that it will be a very competitive match
