Dwain Chambers

British athletics
comment on the article

Chambers has admitted cheating. There is no dispute about this and there should be no grace given. Holding the hand up and admitting it does not make it OK or mean that a second chance should be given. Anyone want to give Ben Johnson back his gold medal and world record ? I don't think so. Chambers knowingly broke the rules of fair competition and should not be allowed to compete again, especially not in a British vest.

"Chambers has served his ban and should be given a clean slate and a second chance. It typical of the hypocrisy of Britain. If I was Chambers I will STICK TWO FINGERS UP AT BRITAIN and represent whichever country in the Carribean his parents are from"

Oh no. Please don't go Dwain. Anyway this comment is fundemantly flawed for 2 clear reasons. If he went to any other Carribean Island he wouldn't even get anywhere near qualification for chosed islands squad as he ain't that quick. ANd most importantly his argument of restraint of trade against the BOA is false becasue this means he DOES have the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics!!!!!

DO people just choose to read the posts that suit them and ignore all the others?

It is NOT a restraint from trade. He is free to earn a living from athletics and is doing so currently!! He just cannot be selected to run in Team GB because of a LEGAL by law regarding selection that is NOT discriminate in any way.

Should he be given a second chance after gross misconduct?? Well lets compare other professions which he could have employed himself in and ask if he would argue against restraint of trade after the following examples of gross misconduct:

An accountant who is found guilty of embezzlment? Do you think they would ever get any job in finance again?

A human found guilty of a peodophile offence. Would they ever be allowed to work with children again?

Any person with a criminal record of any nature? Are they allowed to work as a Policeman ever?

If you ask me he should be lucky he is even allowed back into his profession at all!!

He is NOT being discriminated against. Lord Coe, Dame Holmes and Steve Cram are not being saints just for advocating we stick by the rules just because one man, a moral vacuum himself, is demanding they be changed just to suit him because of the situation he finds himself in?

He is also not serving 2 separate punishments for the same offence. I can't be bothered to type it all out again...its mentioned earlier up on this thread.

I think chambers should be allowed to compete at the olympics. Firstly because he has served his ban and can't do anything about his drug taking in the past. Also many people have a dream to represent their country at the olympics and if they make one silly mistake they shouldn't have this privilage taken away. No one can prove for sure that the drugs which he took has given him a long term advantage and if he's off drugs now then he should be allowed to compete. I know it doesn't sound good that a former drugs cheat is competing for our country which arguably makes the sport look bad, but it's about dwains right to be able to have a chance to represent his country if he wants to. If he turns out to be good enough at the trials then I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be alllowed to compete in Beijing. I also think that taking drugs for sport should be made an illegal offence. This would stop the young athletes aiming for 2012 from making the wrong choice and getting themselves into the unfortunate situation which dwain is facing.

Eh??? I'm fairly confident it was illegal when Dwain took them as well?!!!!! This makes no sense.

Abiding by the rules? Well ask Coe et al why they took appearance money when it was against the IAAF and AAA rules back in the "Shamateurism" days.
UK Athletics in one form or another has always been a prime example of hypocrisy from the "Mr Mussabini" episode with Harold Abrahams to the restriction of trade on Albert Grant 1950's and George MacNeil 1970's.
Rehabilitation is a valid concept in a civilised society so Coe,Cram Moynihan et al should just wander off back to Brideshead revisited where they obviously belong.

It's typical of this country to take the moral high ground with a load of do-gooders who are big on talk and not big on action. I've noticed there are quite a lot of hypocrites about
We should want to see our best sprinter out there, give him a chance to redeem himself. Go on Dwain, get the ban overturned and then ram the protestor's words down their throats by making the final (the only chance we've got). I would absolutely love it if he did.

Looks GB will be sending a load of mediocre sprinters to the Olympics and leaving the best sprinter in Britain at home. Next time he should just miss his drugs test, he'll be fine then.

He still wouldnt of made the final anyway or prob even semis - its sad that chambers is supposed to be our best but i would rather send others than a drug cheat - i bet we have all slagged off people like gatlin, drummond, marion jones, ben johnson etc - all drug cheats who should be banned for life none of this two years and back in again rubbish .

and missing a test is a bit different as opposed to actually taking drugs .

How can you prove or disprove you're not on drugs unless you take the test? Missing a drugs test should be treated equally as seriously as taking drugs. He should've just missed the test and then he'd have never been found out and then we'd have one decent sprinter at the Olympics.
