U.S. Open. Predictions

comment on the article

Not a bad comeback tournement for Tiger eh? Will this benefit him or cause him problems. He knows how to win so that isnt a problem, if he's in contention then he can close it out. But the lack of "match fitness" to use a footy term could get him.

However how often do us mere mortals go on a non-golf holiday and return only to play the round of our year? a break from golf can be a big boost. granted he is returning from injury and not a beach but it could have the same effect.

And now to the nitty-gritty as it were. Can a European win? Can a Brit win? Can an Englishman win? All conceivably possible but i can see it being another disappiontment, another nameless, faceless American who will go back into the shadows after one good week.

So, who do you think will win? Who do you want to win? And why...

Good shout with Mike Weir jlee. He is playing well and he is very consistent in the major's.

The US Open is the toughest to win and Torrey Pines is a monster of a course. I think an American will win it. I'll go for Steve Stricker.

I've just seen that Steve Stricker is 80/1. I'm going down the bookies quick.

forget about woods at those odds - US Open style course don't suit him. dont' compare this with the buick in january - torrey pines will be a completely different setup to what we saw there and any wayward tee shots will be punished

i'm also backing weir, with a saver on any aussie to win (take 7/1 or better) mainly with baddeley* and ogilvy in mind, but plenty of aussies in good form right now. *assuming badds is over last year's final round - has won again since so should be

best bets for the majors are the top player markets. fancy kim top debutant (though doubt if he's ready to win a major yet, but he will win plenty). casey top european should be decent odds, as will cink for top usa without woods

can't see a european winning, though do like rose's chances at birkdale - finally played well last week after a few poor tournaments and doesn't let dropped shots or bad luck get to him the way he used to

good luck!

"Oh i cannot wait now after seeing Mickelson and Woods being paired together absolutely brilliant it adds some extra spice to what already was going to be a great tournament "

Colin Montgomery makes me laugh. I have more chance of winning a US Open than he does right now. Even off my 13 handicap laugh. But you have to love him and his positive approach.

Rose and Donald both finding some decent form. They will lead the line for Britain. Come on Alistair Forsyth

Monty stands a chance if he gets his game together. The course will suit him, he just needs his driver and putter to work for him. There is a chance Tiger will not be 100% so its "dip your bread" time for the europeans. If Monty doesn't fire then lets hope Messrs Rose and Poulter can up their ante.

I Really think Monty can do it, just watching his interview shows he aint done yet. He had no form 2 years ago in the us open and came tied for second (although he should have win it that day.

Also the us open is one of the most unpredictable tournaments!!!

So Monty for the us open for me!!!
