Watched this last night on the video stream available via Eastside Boxing...

My opinion ain't original, but what a shambolic affair! Never mind the farce of the 90 second round and the confusion of points deductions and counts... There was simply no meaningful communication between referee and fighters - not from the start. You could tell that when the ref gave the pair his instructions just before the 1st bell, they had no idea what he was talking about! Obviously I'm not saying that all refs should speak English - or whatever other offical language you might care to pick for boxing... But surely things have to be arranged so that referee and boxers understand each other!

Did anyone see the Hide match? Was it equally confused?

I'm glad that Williams is going to make a formal complaint. I remember growing up and watching Boxing, there was always that in-joke that you needed a knockout to get a draw in Europe. An exaggerated statement, but not far off.

I've seen contentious decisions in both the UK and the States, but never have i seen such blatant cheating, by all the goings on in some parts of Europe. I can list down so many examples, but i don't want to type a novel.

If they can't officiate a Professional title fight fairly, because they want their local boy to win at all costs, then the venues of those particular countries where it's held should be banned.

Where is the best place to see a video of this. From the comments it looks as though it is definitely worth it

Alot of people have completely gone off on a tangent here. This forum is about the underhanded and lets call a spade a spade ...racist attitudes of some European countries.

I remember watching a documentary about the late Idi Amin when he was telling Ugandan boxers the only way to win a fight against the opposition and espercially white opposition is by KO..if not you stand no chance..and damn this was over 30 years ago. Full credit to Danny Williams in such a situation its easy to feel sorry for yourself and give up.

There is some seriously dodgy shít going on in boxing. Too right Danny Williams should lodge a protest. Having said that, Robin Reid should have lodged two in his career.

How on earth did they get away with what Reid had to go through vs Sven Ottke. He had the guy down, it wasn't counted. He had point deductions for daring to throw a punch at Ottke. Outrageous!

Then he goes to America and is blatantly hit on the break by Jeff Lacy. Not only is Lacy not penalised (two point deduction, minimum) but Reid is issued with a count and not given time to recover.

British boxers overseas don't get a fair shout. That's a fact. How many decisions don't we get? How many times do we have to battle the elements as well as the opponent.

Remember Lloyd Honeyghan knocking out Gianfranco Rosi? He was given the slowest count I've ever seen!

Let's see how well looked after Gary Lockett is when he fights Pavlik...

It was a disgrace. Slow counts, time to recover, unfair deductions, rounds ending early, the ref eating up time. You name it. I was stunned, but glad to see Williams pull through and stop this fellow.

It was very reminiscent of Reid v Ottke, and to the gentleman that mentioned the Lacy fight, yes totally right, he hit him on the break for the first knockdown.

watched the fight online. I am by no means a williams fan but the ref wants shooting. Deducting points for god knows what, whenever the guy was in trouble, the ref let him have a breather, which the Germans corner ensured was a long breather. As for the bell going off with more than half a round to go, you have to see it to believe it

Thanks for the link, I watched the fight online, it was obvious Danny wasn't expecting the fight to be taken to him in the manner it was, but credit to him for pulling himself together and winning despite the worse refereeing I've ever seen. Danny was visibly angry and channelled the aggression with a ruthlessness that had been missing in his performances for a long time, perhaps some good can come from this if he can gain confidence from his performance in the last two rounds.
