Monday's gossip column

comment on the article
Mark Hughes

According to today's papers Blackburn will announce later that manager Mark Hughes has been granted permission to speak to Manchester City.

No, you haven't misread it, apparently 'Sparky' is all set to replace Sven-Goran Eriksson at Eastlands and not Avram Grant in west London.

CHELSEA BOSS - LATEST GOSSIP

On the subject of Eriksson, he will finally be put out of his misery today by getting the boot from owner Thaksin Shinawatra who is targeting Zico, not Hughes, to take over.

As for signings, nothing too earth shattering except for the fact Jose Mourinho wants to bring the entire Chelsea squad to Inter Milan with him. Ok, maybe not the entire squad but Michael Essien and Frank Lampard have both been linked with the Serie A champions.

At Liverpool, John Arne Riise could be the first through the exit door at Anfield with Roma heading the queue for the £5m rated full-back.

anyone who's seen quaresma play will tell u he's a waste of space who wasn't good enough for barca and isn't good enough to perform at international level. He should be good enough for Liverpool though, as he'd be playing with teammates who are just as limited as he is!

I think silvestre, fletcher and saha should go... although fletcher has given some top performances in the champions league, I really dont put him in the same league as 5,6 or 7 of our other midfielders. I'd like to see O'shea stay, just to add depth to the squad and keep some experiance and continuity there... especially if new faces are to be added.
Youth is obviously the key to success in the modern game, but experianced versatile players still need to be kept, for off the pitch as well as on.
Would love to see Lahm at the club... wish we were being linked with Villa aswel, although i'm sure theres a chelsea price tag on that one.

Why Fletcher rather than O'Shae!? Fletcher is 3 years younger, almost as experienced and O'Shae is more likely to see game time than O'Shae as he plays across the midfield not just as a DMF blocker as well as RB. O'Shae is a valuable squad man and because of his versatility... but between Hargreeves, Fletcher and Brown we've got this covered so I think we should get some cash for him while we can and get him of the wage bill, same goes for Silvestre. There are plenty of Young players who need a chance, if we take your menatlity these players will never get a game as they'll never be experienced enough... it's been too long since a 1st team key player has come through the youth system as opposed to squad men like Brown, Fletcher and O'Shae

Well, what can I say? With SAF and the Glazers saying that "Ronaldo will rot in the stands etc" it seems that the Real method has worked again in causing friction between player and manager. I believe that everyone in UEFA should put a stop to this. Are they afraid of Real Madrid? Yes, it is true that they are successful but how long can RM use officials, refs, linesman blatter etc to get away with such actions? They never heard of Ronaldo until SAF made him into a player he is today. And Ruud Van Nistellrooy?? How many managers would have stook by a player who was injured before being bought? Take my word for it, the moment that Nani, Anderson start becoming big stars, Real will do everything possible to get them. If I was Glazer I would put clauses into their contracts ASAP!!!!!!Just in case Ronaldo does go, how long before Nani takes over the role, after all, he hasn't been playing that long.

I think its shocking how Real Madrid can think they are bullies in a playground and can buy whoever they want.
But sadly its worked again, i agree with addernoire, the whole 'rather keep him in the stands than sell to RM' has caused abit of tension in the camp and Real will feed off this small friction and make it grow by turning player and manager against eachother through the media.
What SAF needs to do is get himself down the training ground tomorow morning and have a right old great big joke with Cristiano right infront of the cameras at the sidelines and laugh alot.
This would be a perfect response to RM's actions and show that they cannot pick and choose players when they want.

The funny thing about football is that the more you fail, the more jobs you get offered. Sven is on the short list for Mexico, for heavens sake cant any of them speak english. They obviously dont read our newspapers to see what a flop he has been.
